Thoughts on the Remington 700 SPS?

Good basic rifle. Inexpensive stock and finish is what keeps the price down, otherwise no different from any other more expensive Rem.700.

My new SPS shot well right out of the box. My more expensive new CDL needed some warranty work.

of course.
its just a Remington 700 action thats matte blued and in a cheap plastic stock.
in fact the SPS-V model is the exact same thing as the current Remington 700P, but half the cost and is matte blued instead of parkerized, and has the plastic stock instead of the fibreglass HS Precision stock.

the HS precision stocks come up on the EE from time to time, or you could order a Mcmillan. or cheaper alternatives like the Bell and Carlson, Hogue etc. sell the factory stock on the EE to recoup some of the money.

if i were to buy another Remington 700 id start with an inexpensive SPS or SPS-V and order the exact stock, trigger, etc i wanted rather than paying >$1000 higher end Remington.

if you want a wood stock both Boyds and Richards Microfit have a large selection, just about every aftermarket stock is available for the 700 action.
