Thoughts on the Savage Axis?

Personally I would upgrade to the savage 11 trophy hunter package. It has the accutrigger and a weaver scope instead of that cheap bushnell and you can still get it for $499.

haha, how on earth could one ever "upgrade" to a Savage?

wait... nevermind, I always forget about Norinco, SKS junk, etc....

2x cantgetright get the trophy hunter XP package - Have one in 243 and personally feel it is much more of a firearm than the axis - I was prepard to put another scope on it but have been pleasently surpised with the supplied Weaver 3x9

I have an axis in .308 that shoots sub MOA with Hornady Match 168 grain commercial loads. Why pay more if you don't have to?

I hear the .223 axis is capable of about .5MOA with commercial loads. If you want an accurate rifles without breaking the bank this is it.

Just put a downpayment on a Marlin X7VH in .223, they are selling locally for $319.00 in 22-250 and .223.

26" heavy barrel. Price was right, hopefully won't be dissappointed. Kind of like buying a Kia or hyundai.....not sure of quality on this one.

What a bunch of elitist crap. I would much rather see a new shooter buy a Savage or Stevens if on a budget than wait for years to save up for a Cooper/Montana/M70 Super Grade etc. They are safe, accurate and a whole lot of fun (as is an SKS) if not polished, graceful or "classic." Different strokes for different folks. The world would be really boring without options and choices to fit all budgets.

haha yeah, my budget sucks, I have the XL7 in 30-06, groups extremely well for the $$ I've got into it! same rifle from what I can tell, just a shorter action on the X7?
Will put some thought into the Savage Trophy but I've got a pretty smokin deal lined up for tomorrow on the Axis!

I'll keep ya posted, headin out for a shoot this week since the new Sail store had 15% off ammo all week I have a nasty stock pile!!!

Well........ You make a decision yet?

My old man has a axis in 22-250 that he is more than pleased with for the price, like mentioned a few small upgrades go a long ways. The axis is a great bush pushing gun that your not worried about marking up (added character)

Bought the wife the trophy model 11 in 7-08mm as her hunting rifle, quite a bit better than the axis in my opinion, and the difference was about a $100 which is well spent money.
