Hey guys im looking to get some feedback on the .22lr m&p15. Does anyone own one? Has anyone shot one? Has anyone seen one up close? It seems like a cool concept especially to take with me to my local action range.

I don't believe a decision on restricted or non has come down yet for this rifle. There is a recent colt .22LR suimilar item that is non-restricted. the current Shooting Times did a review of the S&W 15-22 and it came out very favorable. I personally like the S&W better because of the front sight choice flexibility.

I recently purchased an ar15 .223, but will soon be ordering the .22lr conversion kit for it :)

unfortunately, it's still restricted :(

Woohoo!!!!

From a thread in the Black Rifle forum:

Mr. Maarten Kramers

Tel: (902) 424-1712
FAX: (902) 424-4308

Mr. Kramers just ASSURED me that the M&P15-22 was NON RESTRICTED due to the fact that the Upper receiver cannot be swapped to make this center fire rifle.

Order away!

The following text is from the website for the store at my club.
The new M&P15-22 is a dedicated M&P15-format rifle design and built as a true .22LR semi-auto from ground up, with all the standard operating features and accessory specs of a modern centerfire M&P15 rifle.

This rifle is “RESTRICTED IN CANADA”

Sure would be nice if it is indeed a non-restricted rifle as previous posts suggest.

I know Maarten Kramers and I can tell you he knows his sheet. FWIW, the quote that is attributed to him is consistent with previous rulings made by RCMP forensics in regards to classification status of AR-15 "type" rifles.

Is it consistent with:

:yingyang:...........:yingyang:

It may very well be, however, I'm not familiar with that case. If you recall, some time back Dlask Arms attempted to produce a pump-action AR15 that was classified as a "variant" despite the fact that it wasn't a variation of the semi-automatic AR15 type rifle. One of the determining factors of classification was (if I recall correctly) that the lower receiver was capable of housing upper receivers of existing "restricted" AR15 and therefore deemed a variant of said existing design.

In the absence of such compatibility, I suspect the M&P 15-22 was classified as non-restricted on that basis.

It would be nice if someone could actually check the FRT data to either confirm or deny actual classification.
