Thoughts on the Tapco stock for an SKS?

Looking at Tapco stocks for my SKS, any thoughts on whether they are worth the money, just tired of the old wood stock.

I have used the six position stock on an sks before. They work just fine, my wife and kids were able to adjust the stock to fit them as well, which was a bonus. Stock functioned as it should, if you are into the tactical look then givR!
 
I used to use it more, but i've since gone back to the wood stock but with a 1" buttpad extension to give a bit longer length of pull. The tapco works fine and fits well, the main thing i disliked about it is how it made the sks feel soo front heavy, the wood stock balances it out a little better, so you don't really notice the weight as much.

Other than that taking off the pistol grip is kind of a PITA, but it sounds like deckard has the solution, I had never heard of this mod, might have to give it a try.

I think they're the best aftermarket stock available, in my opinion, as long as you aren't taking the handle off lots. I can see that stripping eventually.

X2. Did the you-tube mod on mine, as well as slightly widening the gap in the gas tube guard rail to improve the sight picture. Used a ball end-mill in my bench top mill\drill - works great.
 
Make sure if you do go for the tapco stock that you get the one with the lower Picatinny rail aswell as the top. The SKS was my first gun and newbie mistake didn't think about future accessories like a bipod or foregrip handle. Wish I had it now that's for sure.

I never bothered with the plastic handguard, I got a second spare handguard, stripped and sanded it and painted it with a can of truck bedliner and it pretty well matches the colour/texture of the tapco stock. This way I don't need to worry about taking the pins in and out to change back to wood

Google "drilling out solid rivets". Once you replace the steel one with aluminum, it gets stupid easy.
 
I find they work well, I just hate the 'square' upper hand guard, so I swapped it out with another.

One thing all aftermarket SKS stocks lack is the steel cross-bolt of the original wood stock. I simply added one and bedded it tight using some thread stock. I found the groups got better after that.
 
I put a Tapco T6 on mine after I discovered taking the wood on and off to clean the gun was moving my point of impact 4-6 inches. Right now with the T6 stock on it and a cheap 4x scope it will shoot 2'' or less at 100yards and the point of impact doesn't shift if I take it out and put it back in.
 
There is nothing cool about a plastic crap stock. Could you see the Russian army sporting a tapco stock on their sks? It sucks and looks ###.
 
Latest AKs have all plastic furniture, and even M4 type stocks. Gaie no doubt. If a plastic SKS gets noobs into the community cheaply, so be it. In the early 90s I bought 3 Russian SKSs for $200 and an ATI side folder. Today my collection would astound you.

Not a Noob been shooting for over 40 years, have an CAR-15 as well as many other boom sticks.

I bought a OD Tapco stock swapped it out last night, really like the feel of it as I prefer pistol grips and like the sliding stock.

Stock fits very tight, for 130.00 it was worth it to me even for just the fun factor, if I want my old laminate stock I can always swap it back, just need another handguard metal kit.

My son likes it better, as I did an AR kit for his 10/22 too. He has always liked my CAR15 and the adjustable old school metal stock. Have too many black guns, so lately I have been getting OD stocks just to be different. :)

Anyways thanks guys, now we have a fun trunk gun to shoot. :)
