Thoughts on this new rifle with warped stock?

Hmm. Very interesting! I just received a nice 557 8x57. I noticed the barrel seems a bit close on one side at the front. I’ll take a closer look to see if it touches. If it doesn’t, I will just go with it.

Edit: Just checked mine. It is closer on one side than the other, but not touching and not out of whack enough to worry over.

Allteeth, that is one very nice looking rifle you have. Hope it all works out for you!

My Ruger M77 was similar. However, a recently added rubber pressure point and a small metal shim in the action area solved the problem.
 
Just a thought. Is the bore square to the action? Might sound unlikely, but I’ve seen a couple of production rifles where it was so out of square you could see it with the naked eye (like yours). It’s also possible that the stock was milled off-centre but you’d be able to see that easily. I wouldn’t have thought that it could warp that much.

It felt more like dealing with a private seller than a legitimate business. There was absolutely zero professionalism from start to finish so I had to wash my hands of them - Gables or Gobles or wtv their name is. Now known as Gibbles.

It is what it is. I ended up with what I wanted just cost me an extra $400. Eventually I’ll have an another stock I can sell and recover a few bucks. Thinking about heading out to try it for the first time. If so I’ll post the results this evening.
 
The new stock arrived and it doesn’t fit. Action screws are 7 1/2 vs 6 3/4. Meant for long action I guess.
Nicest stock out of the 3. Nice brown walnut. Nicer than the beech or Turkish walnut I’d say. A shame.
 
Sorry to read about you're misfortune. If I were you, I would absolutely send it back to the dealer. It's always nice to have great wood, however, function and reliability is key. They don't build guns like they use to......hint hint, go search for an oldie goldie, something made in the 1950's, 60's, 70's and 80's, preferably a European rifle.
 
Finally got out to take a few shots. Zero issues with accuracy, it was phenomenal using Hornsby match even with a bad bench setup and horrible weather. 2 x quick 3 round groups at 100 and 150 yards from the shoulder were excellent. No complaints with accuracy at all
The muzzle brake caught me off guard though. I don’t have one on any of my other guns and this thing is louder than my big guns no doubt! Ear protection was a must with it installed so it’s coming off to see what kind of difference it’ll make. Brutally loud even. Low recoil was great and noticeable but I don’t plan to wear hearing protection out hunting and .308 recoil isn’t an issue for me anyways. Thought I might like it but don’t think it’s for me.

Your right track, all my old stuff has served me well and been reliable. I simply cannot say that about my newer guns at all. Lots of issues!
