Looking to do some target shooting up to 300 yards max, and some deer/moose hunting...anyone have one? heard good or bad things? Any info would be much appreciated. The price is $1060

Cheers,
Dave

I shoot the same rifle in 6.5x55. Its accurate and fun to shoot:)

Mine took very little time to work up a load. I bought a good scope and some decent mounts and before long I was stretching it out to 500 yards and getting good results.

Some day I want to add the same rifle in .223....

However if 300 yards is your max and hunting is in the mix I don't know if the varmint is what you need. Its a big beefy barrel and stock on the Varmint model. I think just a standard T3 is all you need.

My Tikka Varmint all done up is just about 10lbs. Its not something I would want to lug around all day hunting....

I will hunt with mine some day but it will be a stand hunt:D

My T3 Lite is only 7 1/2 lbs with a scope and with a rest I can print nice groups at 300 yards. Its also a 30/06, so I would bet that a .308 would be even more accurate. I used to lug around a old Grampa gun that wieghed around 10lbs, and after a full day of hunting, and bushwacking, it sucked.

Carrying my T3 Lite feels amazing. I often catch myself smiling to myself thinking about how much nicer it is to carry then my old Grampas, wet wood rifle.

If I was planning on using a rifle strictly for competition target shooting, then I would get a Varmint style rifle, but unless you hunt with a ATV driving up and down logging roads I would'nt want to carry a 10lb varmint rifle for moose or deer hunting.

I have a T3 Hunter in 308 and I really like it. Got 3 shots off so fast during deer hunt by buddies didnt think it was me (bolt gun) they said it sounded like a auto gun....and it is damn accurate and not heavy to lug around.
I use 165 gr Hornady boat tails and varget powder

I know a guy who has that model and yeah he does it for hunting. Likes it and says the weight helps it feel more solid shooting. But I drag my tikka lite around all day without it bothering me. Either one, your gonna have fun with it buddy

I have had a T3 Varmint 308 for several years now and have used it extensively for hunting. The first thing I did was cut the barrel back to 20" and put a BDC scope on it. I have shot dozens of deer with it as well as most other things and didn't mind carrying it around as it is very consistent and accurate. I like to shoot everytime I go out so I often end up shooting 20 plus rounds in an outing.

I had a 308 T3 lite as well but preferred the consistency of the Varmint. It shoots VERY well and with proper bullets I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a moose.

That being said I now have a Kimber montana that is an absolute treat to pack all day and often gets the nod.
