Hey all!! Just thought i would ask for some advice on what your thoughts and opinions are on Weatherby Pump action Shotguns.

The reason I ask is well i love to shoot shotguns. I love waterfoul hunting and would love to retire the old winchester model 12 and upgrade to something new. I was really wanting a semi but they are out of the budget unless used and cheap lol. I called my friends at Triggers and Bows today and they got weatherby pump action shoguns in stock with a 28" barrel and comes with 3 choke tubes. 370 bucks.. I didnt think it was to bad of price. It has a 3 1/2 chamber and i dont need a slug barrel cause my zone in ontario is a rifle zone :D.

Thanks for any info and thoughts

No prob Josh. My buddy owned a PA 08 and I owned a 20 bore PA 08. Both guns were flawless in operation and shot and handled well. I sold mine because it was a 20 on a 12 gauge frame. The gun worked 100% with no issues. My buddy sold his 12 because he wanted to move to an auto loader. Again not an issue. I feel the PA 08 is a sleeper on the market today. Lots of quality and good value.

thank all for the replies.. I was also looking at the new Winchester Black Shadow SXP.. Not a bad lookin unit and well priced.. i was thinking about going that way. both are great name brands with lots of reputation. whats your thoughts on the winchester?

I own the PA 08 and will never sell or get rid of it, absolutely love that shotgun, I agree with madtrapper that it is a sleeper on the market, beats the rem 870 and moss 500 any day of the week in my eyes. Go for it! cant go wrong, awesome to shoot and a breeze to clean and maintain, only issue is rifled barrels are hard to get but if you dont need it then i wouldnt worry.

I also own the PA-08 with a synthetic stock. It is a great gun! I will hold onto it for my whole life. Only thing that I find is that the stock seems a bit long, so it takes a bit more practice to shoulder it quickly and get an accurate shot off. Otherwise, no complaints! $370 is well worth it.

I fired one once, felt nice and light, seemed a little short but I think its the same length as my 500. pistol grip seemed small though. thats my only complaint. Hi Conz

My friend purchased the SA-08 in black synthetic. On his review of the gun I purchased the PA-08 in wood. (Which is only 3”)

The shells kept getting caught up in the receiver - about 1/30-50 shots (not too bad; however, I use a pump for its reliability) its very frustrating when you get a hang up and are not able to make a follow up shot.

I sent it back to weatherby (through the dealer I bought it from) I just heard last week that weatherby is recalling a lot of wood PA-08's because of this reason. I have been without it for 2 months. - I just purchased a gun of a different brand and don’t plan on buying another weatherby

The Dealer told me dealing with weatherby has been a massive headache -

I wouldnt hesitate to buy one for Waterfowl Duty.
For the money they are pretty good value for $
I did see one last duck season though that has a story to tell, even if the owner doesnt recall all the details.
Owner lends PA-08 Wood stock to his buddy for the day... out in the marsh tide is high, they set decoys and layout in boat.
Buddy gets excited and gun ends up in water while trying to shoot an incoming flock of ducks.
Gun is in water for ??? while tide ebbs. When water is low enough they recover wet gun and shake water out.
Next flock of birds and buddy pulls trigger and gun goes boom.. trigger group drops out, nice ring in barrel at muzzle and pump rods are a bust too.
I seen this gun the same day as the incident and the wood was swelling on the butt stock and forgrip as well.
Again, I would buy one if I where in need of a shotgun but, knowing there is an issue with a submerged gun I would choose the synthetic one.

Thanks all!! well i was in bass pro the other day and ended up drivin home with a new 870 express.. The winchester was a nice shot gun but didnt have all the options i can get with the 870. They didnt have any weatherby there but was handling them in the Canadian Tire in Belleville and it just didnt seem to follow up as nice as the rest.. I had a hard time getting it to the shoulder comfortably.. The 870 came up the fastest and felt the most comfortable. Now to just purchace a turkey choke and go from there.
Thanks again
Josh
