Thoughts: Ruger precision vs R700 PCR

Hello
I'm a newbie for precision shooting and I'm looking to buy my first precision rifle. I narrowed it down to a 6.5 creedmoor, it was a toss up between that and a .308.

As far as rifles go I wanted to get something that was a good price range but can be built upon. I've read and watched countless reviews on the Ruger and the PCR, both seem quite good but the PCR is a little cheaper so I could invest a little more into a scope.

Do any of you gents have advice to offer? Seems like there is more out there for a R700.

The scope I'm considering is the nikon black fx1000 6-24 50mm

What's your budget?

I honestly think a Tikka T3 put in a KRG Bravo is one of the best value propositions in the precision rifle world. As much as I love my high end custom rifles, you are not giving up much to them with this setup.

Lots of aftermarket support, so you can "grow into" the rifle. Once you shoot out the barrel get Insite Arms to spin you up a barrel from a nice blank (Krieger, Bartlein, Hawkhill, Benchmark, Brux). Options for different triggers and stocks are available.

Ruger is a decent option, lots of features for the price. I would avoid Remington these days - the QA/QC and manufacturing quality are horrible. Money is better spent elsewhere then trying to upgrade a remington IMO.

My budget was $2500 for rifle and scope. I was going to get the rifle straight away and wait for a sale or some more time to save for the scope I'm looking at. Is there much difference between the T3 and T3x? I've just started looking at those right now.

Just an option for you.

There is a Tikka CTR in a Mcmillan A5 over on the EE. I think he is asking $2,700 for the whole set up.

I don't know the guy from a hole in the ground but it looks OK to me - OK enough to get going at least (the Viper HSTs are only OK scopes).

The T3X has some minor changes like a slightly larger port and metal bolt shroud. Pretty minor stuff.

From my understanding the differences is mostly in the stock differences. If you get a KRG Bravo, that point is moot. There's some other small things like metal bolt shroud on the x, etc.

If money is tight, I would get just the regular T3 and drop it in a KRG Bravo. The little things like metal bolt shroud, bolt knobs, etc. can all be updated later to suit your preference.

If it was my money, I would just get the regular T3.

I checked out that guys rifle on EE. It looks like a smoking deal.

The think with the T3 is i'd have to drop at least $1000 for the rifle (not sure id the barrel is threaded) then another $600 for the KRG.

Another option I stumbled on was buying a 700 action with a barrel for about $800 and dropping that into a KRG bravo. One of the reviews I read about the PCR is that there isn't much space between the grip and stock. I'm 6'1" with knuckle dragging arms, so it might be uncomfortable to shoot for me.

I'll admit that I keep forgetting how expensive Canada is (Tikka T3 + KRG Bravo = $800 USD down here), it's still a great value proposition at $1600 cdn.

I wouldn't be afraid to look for used T3 rifles or Bravo chassis's if you can find them. Seems that some stores down in the US are having big sales on T3 rifles right now.

Reach out to some of the bigger stores and see if they have any demo units for rifle, chassis or scopes for sale - there are a lot of really good unadvertised deals if you put the leg work in and ask. I find this especially true for scopes.

There is also a Howa in a MDT ESS chassis on the EE for something like $1,600. Again, I don't know the guy but the 1500 action is pretty good, flat bottom, integral lug, and M16 type extractor.

The Howa is another viable alternative and the ESS chassis is quite popular.

The EE is a great place to find some good deals these days.

Thinking of the same, I have not decided and now am thinking like you. but if you have a chance please look these choices and I would love everyones thoughts.

Firearm and scope with in budget?

Remington pcr is a decent rifle. For sure the cheapest way to get into a new chassis rifle. $1100 at cabelas a month ago.
Don't buy into the Remington is junk. I`ve had really good luck with them the last few years.

The Bravo chassis is a good piece of kit and it has a good number of inlets which is nice. Source: I own one. They are light compared to some other options but throw some lead weights in there if you want to tune it - there are guys in the states doing just this (MPA has its weight adjust system, MDT has the ACC, and even manners now has a heavy option).

I like the Bravo as the ergos are similar to my Manners T4s. They are also not all metal so my hands don't get too cold in winter. It is the closest thing to a stock/chassis hybrid that I have seen.

If you like Remingtons that option works as well. Buy a 700 Barreled action in 6.5 Creed (with threaded muzzle) for under $700, buy a bravo for $600 and you are good to go. The Bravo also can be fitted with their arca rail.

I'm liking all this suggestions. Definitely more options out there in my price range than I thought. Going to do much more research

Where did you find a 700 barreled action in 6.5creed for under $700? the cheapest I've found is $850

The only reason I can think of that you'd want to go with the rpr or pcr instead of the stuff others have suggested is for prs production class. If not going for that then the tikka bravo combo would be hard to beat. Had a ctr in creed, loved it and was looking at the bravo but had to sell it for other non gun related projects.

I bought a Bravo for my wife's Lone Peak 6BRA custom build. I'm damn impressed - it's great quality for the money. Kitted it out with their ARCA rail, ARCA spigot mount and a custom paint job - don't think I can beat it for the money.

I think to save some money I might just buy a new chassis and barrel for my ruger american.

Does anyone have experience upgrading these rifles?

I know the stock barrel heats up real quick, and the stock chassis touches the barrel

Just bought a Remington 700 PCR and so far I like it. Looked at the tikka, but hated the fact it didn’t take AI mags, and extra Tikka mags are over $200....

I bought a RPR gen 1 in .308 and have been happy with it. The reasons I went with the RPR was because of the adjustments and the aftermarket options. i have changed the factory stock out for a magpul gen 3 prs. I found the factory stock difficult to adjust. I also swapped out the grip for an ATI scorpion because I did not like the angle on the factory grip when shooting prone.
Having said that the price of the newer models have gone up $250-400 from what i paid for mine. I think today I would be looking more at the Howa 1500 rifles as they all have great reviews and come in multiple stock or chassis options.
