where could one get a threaded barrel for a colt 1911?
do they even sell them in canada?

Questar (above) have an arrangement with stormlake barrels whereby you can import a barrel for a 1911 directly from the states.They are great barrels(ive had one in a 1911 before).Go check out questars website for details

You might want to talk to a pistolsmith experienced in raceguns, and the art and science involved in hanging additional weight from a 1911 barrel, before making any rash decisions. It's not as simple as all that.

I found an american company that makes the barrels...would i be able to have it shipped to me without an importing license?

No, you need permits - or Questar to do the import/export. A barrel is a major component under ITAR and ATF rules.
