Threading 12.5in CanAm 870 Barrel

Is there enough wall thickness to thread for RemChokes or is too close to the barrel ring that a shorter choke like the Win/Accu/Invector Choke is a better bet? I can do either Rem or Winchoke style as I have both sets of chokes.

It has nothing to do with how close the barrel ring is to the muzzle, it’s all about wall thickness and barrel o.d.

As with all grizzly barrels the specs vary from barrel to barrel, some are within spec for certain chokes and some are not. I had a 12.5” grizzly barrel threaded and it wasn’t thick enough for rem or winchokes, it was within spec for tru chokes, you’ll have to measure it and find a smith that has experience threading Chinese barrels. I talked to 3 smiths that were on the fence or said no and then was recommended a fourth that said sure provided it met minimum measurements.

And do you a big difference in patterning with an IC or Mod choke vs just the plain fixed CYL? 00 buckshot and slugs specifically.

I don’t remember the specs, I was looking for them recently in my emails with the smith and he must have given them to me over the phone. I delt with Rusty Wood Trading in Mission bc, give Peter a call and he should be able to give you the min dimensions required for threading.

I get the best birdshot and 00buck patterns as well as slug accuracy from mod and improved mod chokes out of my 12.5” barrel, full choke is good with slugs and birdshot but 00buck starts to get a bit uneven. IC isn’t bad but mod or IM is my go to for small game hunting with great slug accuracy out to 50y.
 
Dm me an email if you want to see pics of patterns and slug poa/poi from cyl to full chokes, I can send you some if you like at 15-20y iirc. Have 20y & 50y slug pics as well from the mod chokes, real happy with the tru chokes. A short choked barrel is pretty nice, really makes it a different beast.
