Wondering if anyone has had their Mossberg 590 (not the thick barrel 590A1) threaded for chokes, and if so, what did you go with?

Casey at TAC Ord will thread it. If the sidewalls are too thin for typical chokes he will thread it for Tru-chokes which require less sidewall thickness.

I'd also like to hear from anyone that has had chokes installed. I've been thinking about sending mine to Casey at Tacord for chokes.

Didn't mean to make two post, but here are a couple pictures of the work Tac Ord did on my 590 mariner. Neat job and fast turn around. I've not shot it yet but certainly look forward to it. Casey was great to deal with and I would not hesitate to send him something else to work on.

Measure the outside diameter of the barrel. If it's greater that .845 you can get it threaded for RemChokes. If less than .845, but greater that .825 then you can get TruChokes installed.

I currently ream and thread for Rem, but I have Just ordered the reamer and tap for TruChoke because there are so many older guns out there with thinner barrels.

The above are minimum OD specifications but there is another thing you have to consider and that is the screw in bead. If you ream and make the wall too thin then the front sight will fall out. On this job that was a major consideration.

Very true. With barrels that have been too thin to bead, I will often solder on a raised sight.
In one circumstance, the owner just wanted the gun with a full choke, and didn't need the option to change chokes...so i installed the bead directly through the barrel and choke.

I've been meaning to drop my 590A1 barrel to get threaded and my rifle stock inletted for an M5 bottom metal by Casey for some time but I'm either busy or dealing with crappy weather on wknds. Grrrr!

Well I've put a couple boxes through the new chokes, all holding up good so far. The bead seems solid and the EF choke is just the ticket on steel, even using bird shot.
