Three shotgun questions

I shot two rifled slugs through a mirror shiny clean 870 barrel the other day and I noticed that when I took it apart to clean it, the lead distribution was not even. It looked like the slug was not big enough to fill the bore and it bounced from side to side as it traveled down the barrel. Is this normal? It was still fairly accurate, so I'm not overly concerned, just curious.

On that same note, I've discovered that cleaning that lead out of the barrel is a time consuming PITA. I thought about putting a couple of lengths of cleaning rod into a power drill with the bronze brush on the end. If I gave that a good shot of Clean-Bore or something similar, and then went to town with the drill/rod/brush contraption, am I going to damage the barrel?

Lastly, the 870 I have is an Express Super Magnum with 3.5" chambers. It turns out that I like to shoot 2 3/4" shells for the vast majority of my shooting. Is the fact that my chamber is three quarters of an inch longer than the shells that I shoot going to affect the shot pattern or slug accuracy at all?

Thanks in advance!

Matthew

To answer ou second question try a bore snake, the barrel goes from dirty and full of unburned powder to a mirror in one pull, just remember to put a modified or less choke in to protect the threads. You should have no problems firing 2 3/4 in a 31/2 chamber however it would be prudent to check it periodically for any build ups of residue or what have you.

Yes, rifled slugs, (I just edited my OP so don't anyone else jump on Infantry-Soldier for not reading it) and the bore snake doesn't get rid of the lead that was left from the slugs. I have been using a bronze brush with Clean-Bore, pushing it through the barrel for what seems like hours to get the lead out. Hence the drill/rod/brush question.

Try using a 50/50 solution of peroxide and vinegar. Plug one end of the barrel and fill it with the mix. Let it sit for about 5 min and then dump it. Works great on my single action with cast lead bullets. Barrel comes out shiny clean with no work.
