Throwing Your Own Clays

you are right handed so you will probably be better on targets on your left side or the mount and move from left to right. The left move has both hand moving in the same direction. The right move has the right hand often pulling left and the left pushing right, which in itself makes it more difficult. It is the opposite for lefties.

BTW, nice throw. My old eyes could not tell if you hit both targets but I trust you did.

It was a bad video, but yes on that one I hit both. Got the second about 5 feet from it landing.

I hit about nine or ten doubles in a row. The snow cushioned most of the clays that fell. My girlfriend and I would go out and pick up the ones I had missed and re-used them.

I may have gotten partially cross-threaded on names, I do that sometimes. Topperwein used to stack 5 clays on the side of his shotgun buttstock, throw them up like that and break them. He used .22s, rifles , shotguns and handguns in his act. He even shot airial targets with a BAR. Still like you say he was into .22 and is probably best known for shooting at 72,500 blocks and missing 9. That and drawing Indian chiefs with bullet holes. His wife was the first woman to go 100 straight in trap, and I believe the first for 200 at least she went 200 many times. AD taught her to shoot.
Flanigan is up to 11 clays now with a Winchester auto.

I never liked throwing by hand because some idiots like to track clays early...and it's a little disconcerting having them blow up 10 or 20 feet away from your hand.

I think mine was $6. I just find it more of a challenge when I'm by myself or with the girlfriend (she can't throw anything) to throw my own. But when James or Dad throw them it still tests me. I'm not a professional yet.

Side note: Hey, when are we gonna go shooting? I'm guessing you're too busy to drive out to Sprague one weekend.

At the risk of getting too off topic:

1. You know the range in SS has a nice thrower. It's set up so you can trigger it with a cord around your ankle. You could take the bike out there to save $ on gas.

2. I'm busy until we open mid-may, but I plan to do alot of shooting this year. Handguns and motorcycles, dude.

3. Have you seen my new 10/22? I haven't even shot it yet...

Why are you hand throwing for idiots? You should know better!
 
Use one of the cheap plastic throwers attached to a cut down hockey stick to get a longer arm and more leverage. Clays can be launced must faster and further than a normal trap machine.
 
Throwing your own clays is better than nothing but just barely.

This machine is affordable and works well. If 3 shooters went in on one together you could have all the bells and whistles for less than $200 each.
