Thumbler's tumbler's

I did order a tumbler from these guy's http://www.canadiantreasureseekers.com/
Ordered on the web on a Sunday and it showed up the next Friday.
Only problem was it wasn't the Heavy duty motor so I called up Thumbler's,talked to the nice lady and with an additional $5.75 upgraded to the heavy duty motor.
The only problem is waiting for my motor to get to her and then ship the new one back to me.
Hopefully the stainless steel media will be in soon.

The picture on that web site of the "Industrial 18" is not the Industrial version but the standard version.

See my post above for a picture of the Industrial version.

This is the one I picked up.

The vibrator type doesn't really work with stainless tumbling media,so I've read.

I bought my Model B from Cabelas in the States about 5 years ago. It is still sitting in the box, like the rest of my reloading equipment.

Where do you guys get the stainless steel media from?

Ceramic media is supposed to work really well too.

Apparently the stainless "rod" type media tends to peen the case mouths in a rotary tumbler.

There is no reason why stainless media won't work in a vibrating tumbler.

Through a friend of a friend who's into blasting, I got 5Lbs of stainless steel shot, about 0.03" in diameter, for $30. IMO it cleans just as well as the rod/cylinder media type - and probably easier to find.

I also saw reports that stainless won't work in vibratory but never questioned why.

I can't figure how that would happen. The stuff I just got in is about 1/4 inch long and 0.040 in dia. with square end's,.

It's a lot heavier then any other media, it'll eat up a vibrating tumbler.

That size may not peen case mouths too much, but SS is definitely a lot harder than brass.

Yes it will eat up a CHEAP vibrating tumbler. But this thread is talking about Thumblers, and the HD/Industrial ones are designed to polish ROCKS using aluminum oxide GRINDING/CUTTING media, and run continuously for months/years at a time.

And your point is exactly?

I got the Thumler's AR-2 Rock Tumbler. I bought it from Cabelas.

The rotary tumbler made sense to me, since they are designed for polishing rock, they are capable of running continuously for a week or more.

I've only used it one time, just to test it, and it did a nice job on some .338WM and .45-70 brass.

But IMHO it's pretty noisy, so the vibratory tumblers must really be loud.

A cheap vibrating tumbler is still a cheap tumbler. Don't expect it to last.

There is NO comparison to a Thumbler Industrial. Put the lid on one, sit it on a SOLID bench, and it is just as quiet as a drum model. We have both, and the vibrating tumbler is MUCH quicker, wet or dry.
