Thumbs down to this hunt.

Everyone here can say what they want, but if the majority of people I see in real life are anything like the people on here it's all BS. According to CGN, everyone is an expert marksman who never wounds game, does anything illegal and is the perfect role model that everyone should strive to be...

The majority? That's sad, I feel for you. The majority of people I've seen in the bush are stereotypical Canadian hunters, i.e. polite, willing to help (I now wait on moose near a swamp), and safe. The C.O.'s I've met are easy to get along with, and have all loved my SS over laminate Tikkas. I've been shot near? on purpose (this is our spot, BLAM) reported the fvckwads, and had them dealt with.
The only really sad story I have is of my once good friend, way more hunting experience then me, born with a horseshoe up his bum when it comes to game, that showed me an excellent spot years ago, saw the first deer of our season, took the shot, (80 yards uphill) clipped the chest, (we think) and blamed the rifle. Talking about it back at camp, he finally admitted that he'd had his new Browning bore-sighted... and that's it, time to go hunting! I don't hunt with him anymore, but it doesn't change my opinion of the majority of the people out there.

I don't believe the video was staged....

It was in a antler-less season....in the video you can see there is clearly some large Bulls.

He is def. a hunter because here is another vid. of him skinning with an axe.....he definitely has NEVER skinned very many Deer.....as I usually just rip the hide off???

As far as scaring the Elk on purpose that is still against the law and he could be charged.

He is also a bowhunter too....so not sure he is at opposite ends of the spectrum....flock shooting....then primitive weapons??

Some people think that all they need to do to hunt is grab a gun and start shooting. Maybe he's had no one to teach him better? He obviously hasn't spent a lot of time practicing shooting, you can watch the gun wave back and forth in the camera (he's not steady at all) He could've totally wounded one or several elk, or missed them all, we don't know. He thinks hunting is cool, and he buys a camera to record it like he sees on tv, and there it is. It's stupid, sad, misguided, and unfortunate. He should get a mentor to help him out, we've all made mistakes, just probably not video'd them and put them on youtube!

Anyone who thinks this guy's actions should be defended in any way is doing harm to my future hunting

...and you typically don't believe another persons actions are justified, unless you would or have done it yourself.

it's not hard to figure out who the real "hunters" are on CGN.

ill watch a video like this expecting 100% of the posters to say the guy shooting is a complete idiot. but, judging by some of the replies in this thread and ridiculous replies to others, i wouldn't be surprised if the guy in the video was someone from CGN.

Nope, it's a video, I am not defending anyone, also I have forgot more about hunting, fishing and trapping than most on this board. It is the ethical police that give all hunters a bad name. Also people who drag out these dumb videos are just giving more advertising.

actualy that axe looks like an easy way to skin a deer, or rather help anyways. I normaly peel but always run into the "hard spots" that I can hang from the deer on and still not bundge the skin, might be helpful to have a "skinning axe" handy.

The video of the elk shooting... based on the fact I can see the elk in a wide angle lens helmet cam... I would say the elk were less then 300m maybe even as close as 200 in the latter half. He looks like he is trying to hit the same elk, you can see him searching and then switching back over to the lead animals he was shooting at as they start running back the other way. He shooting stinks, I can't defend that. Not everybody is a master marksmen, some people need mor then 1 round to drop a animal; but if you need to dump that many rounds you shouldn't take the shot in the first place.

Nobody is a master marksman when they run around and get breathing like that... If he would have gone prone and taken a controlled shot his freezer would be full... I think this guy is the youtube version of a troll... I don't even think he was trying to hit those elk.... And this video is sham anti fuel...

Ok folks here is a different spin on it.

Deers drives that seems widely accepted as a form of hunting is pretty much the same thing that takes place in this video. The only difference is that the hunter is alone and hunting elk on the run.

IMO and estimation there is very likely a large number of hunters who "post" for deer drives with full magazines in the ole lever action and empty them on several occasions with similar results as this fellow.

So why so hard on this guy?

What I do see is a hunter out trying to bag his game. The video doesn't prove much of anything. It may not be the way you hunt but nobody is telling you that you have to hunt this way.

....big difference between shooting at and missing a single deer.....

Flock shooting could wound or injure several animals with 1 bullet.....

One of the cardinal rules of firearm saftey.

Be sure of your target and beyond.

I think he was just showing off his new rifle... Looks like a Blazar or something expensive.
The animals in the background were too far to hit as he was shooting... so hes just goofing around and pissing off the tree huggers.:)

The elk are far closer than they look. The camera he is wearing is a wide angle and that only accentuates the distance. So I don't think he is shooting that far off hand, I'm betting around a hundred yards. He isn't much of a shot to be sure, but I completely believe he is very representative of the average hunter.

Very true..I have a camera like this, and a deer out to a 100yds look very small...Almost unrecognizable beyond...

This clip will give you a pretty good idea of how such a camera makes distance look much further...This deer was taken @ about 25yds.Where you can first see it the deer would be about 75yds. Looks much further! deer appears @ about the 3.25 mark.

I wouldn't go quite that far, but there are alot of them out there..

The guy who is in this video (xdmatt1320) is not the same one who posted the Elk shooting vid (reddeercanoe).

After viewing the video, there are many unknowns (many mentioned already), so to me I'll simply assume this chap was shooting at one target, albeit having many challenges hitting same, if in fact he did.

I recently read and commented on a moose shooting thread. Many commented the fact you keep on shooting until the animal drops. I would assume these people would do the same with an elk...

What makes me laugh is some of these same people now laugh or critic this video. Not sure what is happening here...;)
