Shout out to Wolverine for the best pricing and quick delivery turnaround on the Magpul 870 SG front and rear stock. Bravo Zulu!
My observations on the Magpul SGA set up is as follows for those interested. Installation was a piece of cake and fit and finish is great. This is a quality piece of kit. The adjustable length of pull with spacers is an excellent feature and so are the various options for sling attachments/configurations. The grip angle is spot on and sits between the standard wooden furniture grip and a pistol grip. It makes for great balance. I have a shorty 14” barrel on my parkerized 870 and this new set up allows for good control of the shotgun. You can keep the muzzle up on target and use your off hand for other tasks (reloading, opening doors while room clearing, etc).
The fore end was also an easy install and comes with the tool to loosen off the nut. Magpul has provided numerous options to allow attaching accessories to the fore end (e.g tactical lights) using the M-LOK system.
I am a retired police officer with 31 years service, including time in tactical operations and as an instructor (firearms, use of force, etc). Once the colt C8 became the go to duty long gun, SG’s were pretty much relegated to dispatching injured animals. Having said this, make no mistake - the SG remains a formidable weapon for close quarters engagements. 8 or 9 pellet reduced recoil OO buck is a serious payload at short distances. Throw in 1 oz slugs for longer distances. I only wish that Magpul was available on our duty 870’s because the adjustable (reduced) LOP makes for a better fit with body armour and is a necessity for smaller statured officers. The design is also far batter than the standard wooden or plastic furniture from an ergonomic standpoint and allows for superior weapon handling and manipulation. In a lethal confrontation that can make the difference between going home or not
Disclaimer: I don’t have any affiliation with either Wolverine or Magpul but highly recommend them if you run either a Remington 870 or Mossberg SG.
Stay safe.
