Is the Thunder Five legal as a Restricted firearm in Canada? At first, I thought the answer is a straight "no," because the barrel is only 2 3/4 inches. However, I understand the definition of a barrel includes the chamber. If so, the chamber of the Thunder Five is three inches to accommodate the 45 Long Colt or 45/70 cartridge, for a total over 5 inches.

It is also promoted as being able to fire five, three-inch .410 shells. Of course, that would not apply in Canada.

"Yeah. Aside from barrel length, why is the shotgun thing an issue in Canada?"

Not. I worded it wrong. I just didn't want to get into a discussion of shotguns.

Scary looking thing. Would be cool to try once and quite possibly only once.

Actually, I did. I was in Missouri last week and bought one like the photo, but in .45 LC at an auction. It weighs three pounds, most of which is the cylinder.

Call it what Poe named "the imp of the perverse." I just thought it would be a hoot as a Canadian to buy a prohibited handgun at an auction for cash with no ID.

I was naturally interested in the recoil, so I shot both the .45 LC and three-inch .410 #4s. I did not think it recoiled as much as my Sig P229 9mm, which is not much. Wife took a video, and the muzzle flip was very little -- maybe two inches.

So the gun resides in a safe in the States with my son. I expect I can get the money back, so we'll see what the future brings. However, I need to control those impulses.

I like the look of it. Thanks for sharing. Wish we could own such 'dangerous' firearms 'in' Canada. But it's fortunate that our government keeps us all safe with longer barrel lengths and well thought out restrictions for firearms in general. Hurray!

One thing the bureaucrats seem to miss is the INTENT of the laws. In this case, for example, the law prohibiting barrels shorter than four inches was intended to prevent easily concealed guns from being available. With this gun, it would be approximately as easy to conceal a brick.
