Thureon Defense 10mm - epic failures

These problems you guys have been having. Is it all with the 10mm models? I bought a 9mmGA with the round handguard a few months ago but havn't got around to shooting it yet. Just want to know if anyones been having problems with anything other that the 10mms.

For the most part it's the 10mm's, it's alot of power for s straight blowback design to handle, your 9mm will be fine, enjoy it.

I think the round was to powerfull in the original configuration, but now it will be fine to prevent an accident, i would not worry about the 9mm ... JP.

With the fast service Thureon gave me, they stand behind there product, i now feel pretty much kaboum free, but will reload very slowly to get to the big one... JP.

Called Thureon yesterday & spoke with Keith.

At the end of the conversation, he took my address & said he'd mail me a new bolt carrier & firing pin.

What more could a guy ask for...! Awesome customer service !!!

:)

I had the new buffer peen the handle cutout so bad the bolt seized up. That is when I gave up and started solving the problems myself.

Tungsten buffers are doing the trick for me. Too bad my rifle had to take so much abuse first.

After reading that someone else (Caramel maybe ?) was getting an "adjustable buffer", I realized I already had it.

I removed 3 washers (~5mm) and it allows the bolt to "lock open" with the charging handle inserted into the large round hole in the cut-out.

And it wont allow the handle to come back enough to hit the end of the slot, the buffer bottoms out in the tube...

Hey, you people have to stop bothering them at Thureon so they'll have time to fix my problem. I'm the OP and I still haven't received anything from them except an empty envelope. :( It's my turn

With the upgrade the Thureon 10mm is better than ever, got 60 hot reloads ( blue dot and 180XTP make a world of difference in power, have yet to Oehler them but i'd bet they break the 1700 fps ) tru it and it work like a charm and barely make expansion on my cases... JP.

I doubt you will get much over 1600fps safely. With a wide variety of 180grn bullets it seems to be the best I can do without going over max powder charges.

I can see a huge difference from commmercial ammo, the ...THUMP... in the sand bank is really more, will Oehler them soon... JP.

Well finally got the buffer, still waiting for the bolt. Don't really see a lot of improvement here. Measured spring compression is actually less - because the spring rides on a much more forward position on the buffer, and the new buffer is only 9.75 ounces vs. the original @ 10.5 ounces.

Have you tried contacting them since?

I've been waiting two months for a bolt!

I just called yesterday, left a message. Keith called me back today...

An employee who handles (whatever) @ Thureon had an accident that required hospitalization.

He's been off for the last 3-4 weeks, and they've been playing catch-up with orders.

Keith promised to personally mail my items tomorrow. Hopefully I'll see them within 2-3 weeks.

I also hope the injured employee makes a full (& speedy, LoL) recovery...!

:)

UPDATE in regards to my issue...

Recieved my bolt/firing-pin ~ 2 weeks ago now, finally got a chance to run a couple boxes thru the carbine.

I noticed that the new bolt has a "spring-loaded" firing-pin now, which functioned flawlessly today.

The only issue I had with the gun was 1 stovepipe, while I had the gun canted 45* with the ejection-port facing strait-up.

Other than that, it seems much more reliable now... Checked the firing-pin when I got home, still mint.

I chewed the center out of a couple targets @ TSE today, 1 round outside the black (100 fired). Used a sled though...

* also met Norinco2009 today, great guy !
