Thureon Defense 9mm Carbine Non - Restricted $1499 Feedback requested

How do these compare to the jr carbine?
I had a jr....sold it after a while....decent gun, accurate for pistol ranges..but the sloppy magazine fit in the magwell, the fact that it said in the instructions that you couldn’t slap a mag in too hard and couldn’t change mags with a closed bolt.....finally got too annoying...and made me sell it.

Would love another 9mm carbine, but to be honest ...that price just seems way too high for what you get...

Once you get around the 1500 range, I start thinking about buying a better rifle, not a pistol carbine that you have to aim a foot high at 100

Currently looking for a 22 WMR plinker instead of 9mm, gun is waaay lighter, waaay cheaper, wickedly accurate and price per round is about the same as 9mm....leaning towards a kel tec

Would jump on a TNW if they made a 22WMR conversion kit....

My 2 cents :)

$1500 plus taxes,ouch

Yep, I recall going to pick one up about 8 years ago at a shop in Cambridge when I heard that Thureon was having a hard time keeping up with demand. I knew a dry spell was on the horizon which would inevitably be followed by a price spike. As I was heading into the shop one guy was coming out talking about Thureon to his buddy and snagging the last one in town. Sure enough, the sales guy told me when I got to the counter that the guy who left had bought the last one......$799.99+tax. That year was pretty much the last time I heard much talk about the Thureon until now. Too rich for my wallet.

I own one

This rifle does not compare to 800/1000$ rifles
This pistol carbine is in a legue of its own and had match accuracy

Do your research

Match accuracy? Lmfao its a 9mm carbine, wtf does match accuracy even mean for a 9mm!? You printing 1moa groups at 100yds??

Id have serious difficulty spending this much when the Ruger carbine is almost half the price and the FX9 is $400 cheaper...

I didn't want to jump in but I'll bite.

Wtf is match accuracy in a 9mm carbine? I have yet to see a 9mm in any precision rifle competition so im curious what you are using as your reference.

This seems to have a good rep and be well built. But it's approaching b&t money...

At a time it used to be alone in the market. But the fx9 is 1g flat... the ruger pc carbine is 800.... so this needs to be 1g to compete. Maybe a touch more... like 1100 tops.

hi , im just curious to know what was the issue with Thureon 9mm firing pin, just doing some research and not much info on it online..any extra info is muchly appreciated. thanks

It is a problem they gave me a few spares but I sent it back when it went full auto because the pin got stuck extended.

They are better than J.R

Agreed. I had a JR and TD at the same time, both in 40 S&W. I now only own the TD.

They are a SOLID firearm. Simple and reliable. Takedown and stripping for cleaning is so simple it's ridiculous. If anyone has had one and taken it apart they'll know what I mean, there's not really much to it. Push the takedown pin, pivot receiver open, pull out charging handle, drop out carrier. 5 seconds and it's fully apart. Try that with a JR.....

The JR never failed me but the design is a joke comparatively.

Meh. I had one. Was an alright rifle. Seemed solid. Okay design I guess, but good luck getting any kind of half decent customer service out of them for anything other than broken firing pins. What's the deal with that by the way? Our rifle keeps breaking firing pins, so instead of fixing the problem that causes them to break, we'll just keep sending out firing pins?

Mine had a handguard that wasn't properly indexed. I called them to ask what could be done to correct this. Guy seemed nice at the time, and said that nothing could really be done, but offered to send me a new handguard. Waited months for this handguard to show up before I started calling again, only to have them duck every one of my calls and never heard from them again.

The firing pin they put in the earlier models was faulty and would break. I had the issue, contacted them, sent my whole carrier to them and was shipped it back with a new stronger firing pin.

You won't have this issue in a new TD rifle. This was about 5 years ago I would estimate.

Great rifle, unfortunately our exchange rate is terrible and prices have gone up on everything.

I feel like the best PCC on the market is also the cheapest and has the best warranty support. All the tactically overpriced junk that is the rest of the PCC market seems to have nothing but issues from almost every single other brand. I don't get the appeal at $1500 but il take a Ruger take down on sale for $7xx.

The 9mm Thureon that I purchased was from 2011 if my memory serves me correct, and was from one of the first batches that arrived. I experienced a failure after 500 plus rounds with the firing pin breaking at the tip. I contacted the company and actually spoke to the owner. He advised me that they had a few " bad" firing pins go out to customers. My replacement pin apparently was a newer version and I'm now into 3000 plus rounds of varying brands and grains of 9MM since I replied to this thread.

I own a few 9MM PCC's such as the Kriss Vector, Keltec Sub2K gen 1, Beretta CX-4, DLASK CZ Skorpion EVO 3, and now the Freedom Ordinance FX9. I can honestly say that my Thureon Defense is hands down my most accurate and reliable 9MM carbine. It balances well, feels solid, and I've gone hundreds of rounds without cleaning it and no hiccups. The only issue was the firing pin which was replaced free of charge and shipped on their dime. I'm happy with the old girl , and although my newer carbines have more furniture options and widgets, the simplicity, ease of takedown, ergonomics, and feel keep me coming back to the Thureon.
The only thing I could do to replace it would be with the newer competition model .
I hope this helps.

I already have a NR CX4 Storm, so I am good for now. Just making a comment on something that has bugged me for a while.

Using the Storm for example, the restricted ones sell for around 8 hundred bucks, whereas the non-restricted ones sell for $1200!!

I agree. The price of NR or over restricted shows its just a price gouge because they can charge it. And more people want to buy NR. No way it costs 400$+ more for extra 6" or so of barrel

I have the 10mm, everything the others say about these I agree. Very well made and reliable. I had issues with the round pickup on the bolt and they sent me a whole new carrier, pin, extractor and all. Also polished feed ramp and extra rail bolts I asked for. Hands down best company I have dealt with. Jr. carbine! Haha! Not even close, I also had a sub2000 and it was garbage and sold it.

Yeah i agree.....i know that when a lot of these US made pistol carbines are built...they are made with 16" barrels (or less)..which would make them restricted in canada for a semi.....and because the pistol round is so crappy out past typical pistol ranges...why not a shorter barrel?

I understand their reasons...marketing for a CQB "type" defensive rifle...that takes pistol mags...and because of 4 or 5 points of contact...allows you to go a bit farther and waaaaay more accurately..than a pistol...it's a marketing feature..LE can use their same pistol mags in a scoped carbine....and in their situations that they may find themselves in...it may be the factor that gets them home to their families at the end of the day (god bless and protect them).....I get it......

But in canada, when a 16" barrel is restricted...and they have to make a "canadian run" of "special 18.6 barrels"(only 2.6 inches more)...that there are extra costs....and a "fair" markup is totally understandable..

But seriously, it's not like they are only selling a "few" rifles to the canadian market...I mean, I know we are small in the big picture...but are we to beleive that "THEIR cost" of a "standard" barrel at THEIR manufacturing costs ...for a run of a few THOUSAND rifles...costs THEM MORE than a typical "custom built match barrel" here?.....REALLY????

Thats why a "pistol carbine" is only worth so much in a canadian customers mind (thousand bucks..TOPS)...there is a limit to what most ppl will pay for a pistol carbine...because as soon as you pass that mark....then a guy thinks..."well if i'm spending 1500 bucks+....for a rifle that you have to aim a foot high at 100....then why not get a "real rifle"...because for 1500 bucks...you have a lot of choices..whether new or used...that are GREAT semi auto 300 yard plus rifles

my 2 cents :)
