dangertree, do you think you could order a whack of firing pins from TD? I've heard them breaking from time to time, and they're proprietary...
The firing pin broke just after 449 rounds...
Funny the firing pin broke on Hickok 45's gun aswell...![]()
I am in the market right now for the 45 acp version, full continuous rail.
Question 1 has the fireing pin issue been resolved ?
Question 2 what does stock look like Im waiting until my birthday as an excuse to the wife for reason of purchase. Can I wait that long or should I put my order in sooner than later?
I emailed thureon defense and was told they have an inbound shipment to Canada but was not sure time of arrival
Thx
Sounds like they were a bit brittle due to heat treatment and that's been fixed so I wouldn't worry about getting a new one.
If the pins are cheap enough though having a spare is never a bad idea.....
Combination of work-hardening during machining and heat-treatment leading to brittle. At one point they TD firing pins were modified AR firing pins, they are now manufactured from the get-go as a TD pin. I don't have the exact price of the pins with me, but they are less than $20 for sure. Not all earlier pins were potentially bad (there was a couple of generations/batches of evolution), those which do break (and which we imported) will be replaced out of inventory. We don't have enough pins here to sell at the moment (we will later), but we do have enough to replace any that break.
So would someone comment whether or not dry firing will break the firing pin? Could it be dry fired as much as an AR15?
Any pix of the failure mode of the older firing pins?
(I do not use snap caps and will not be using them anytime in the future)
TD identified the problem with some earlier firing pins (work hardening in machining) and will replace broken firing pins.
We have replaced about 5 broken firing pins, no charge obviously.
Boomer74, was your TD originally purchased at AEI? I thought I was told that the carbine you own did not come from AEI. If not, is the original vendor not prepared to help?
We certainly do repair anything we sold either directly or through a dealer, but do not provide free warranty work for firearms that we have never had anything to do with.
If this firearm came through AEI, and you have a broken firing pin, please do let us know.
