Foreword "This thread is nothing but a shameless plug about the awesomeness of the AR-10.
"
Yesterday, having abandoned my kids at my mothers, Epoxy7 and I spent the day at the Mission club with the DND Armalite twins. Mine has only recently been acquired, it's my first AR
and as far as I can remember this was my first day firing an AR of any kind.
On a side note my family and I are now members of the massive Mission range. I signed us all up yesterday having been so impressed with the range and its facilities on a previous trip
. Sorry little POCO range I like big girls more
.
Mine is in the fore ground and Epoxy7s in the back with the over compensating scope.
Like a high school prom date I grabbed the easiest scope at my disposal which happened to be a Burris Fullfield II 3x9 , at the time strapped on the SL-8, and fed the beast with my version of the Fed Gold. Seirra Matchkings HPBT 168gr, 43.4gr IMR4064, WIN F.C. brass and CCI bench rest primers FYI for the CGNers This round has been amazing in 2 different Tikka tactical .308s, 1 Remington 5R Milspec and now 2 AR-10s.
Sighting in and becoming accustom to the gun and trigger took 30 rounds, a rather quick 20 minutes.
5 round 100m group. Rounds 31 to 35 from a front bag rest and rear unsupported. A fairly warm to the touch barrel, approximately 15.C with over cast sky's and no wind.
After a target change and a few rounds spent on some objects giving me lip further down range I returned to the 5 rounds at 100m song and dance. Rounds 51 to 55. From the bipod and unsupported rear.
5 round 100m group. Rounds 56 to 60. From the bipod and unsupported rear with a pretty damn warm barrel.
Having become bored with punching paper Epoxy7, having switched to his 5R, and I began engaging those lippy targets out to 300m. It was at this point that Epoxy7 made a last masterful shot to end the day on a lippy golfball sized object out at approximately 310m
.
Disclaimer: No woodland creatures were harmed during the days outing.
The real reason we can't hunt with AR-10s is because all the woodland creatures would simply fall dead at the mere mention of such a firearm entering the forest.
The massive loss of wildlife would cost the Canadian government/tax payers far more to repopulate the Canadian wilderness than the extremely effective long gun registry has cost thus far.
