I have a Ti take off stock for a .260Rem project and the donor is a stainless BDL SPS. From the research I did I can use the same spring/follower but need an ADL mag box.

Question #1: Does a regular ADL mag box fit a Ti stock?

Question #2: I looked on Brownells web site and they have two sizes, described as "long action" and one for ".222 and .222 mag". Remington only has two sizes of action so I'm assuming that the second one is their short action model?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

thanks

There are separate short action mag box's for the 222/223 family and the 308 family....they will fit a Ti stock. You need one for the 308 family of cartridges...the 222/223 box will not work.

Your spring and follower will work.

Cut out the bottom of the Ti stock and put the floorplate in.....that's what "cccan" and I did with our Ti's.

Any mag box for a 260 length cartridge will "fit" but the only problem is the ADL boxes are held to the bottom of the receiver by a small screw and tbe BDL ones are just sandwiched in place between the bottom metal and the reciever.

You could have someone tig weld a tab onto the mag liner and drill a hole to line up with the hole on the receiver.

Also the actual Ti mag box is skeletonized on the sides for reduced weight as well.

Ok, did a bit more research and found the "short actioin, .308 family" mag box that I need and the tab screw for the mag box. My first search on the Brownells web site only showed the "long action" and the ".222 and .222 mag" option, thought it was a little weird, but I'm new to Remingtons:redface:.

Hummmm.....The BDL floor plate would be a nice option on the Ti stock. How did you guys do it? Milled it out I'm assuming?

I haven't converted adl to bdl myself but I have fitted and bedded enough floorplates that I can't see it being hard.If you got a dremel and a steady hand you can do it, just insert wooden dowel throught the bdl floorplate bolt holes and then into the bolt holes on the stock, slide the floorplate onto the stock and trace the outline of the bdl floorplate on the stock. Your going to want to bed the floor plate after your finished anyways so if you go a little deep then its no big deal you'll be setting the depth when you bed it in, just don't make it too wide, better to be a touch narrow and work it a bit till it fits nice instead of taking too much out the first go around.

Holding a metal straight edge along the cut lines will give you a guide for cutting with your dremel.

I actually found the proper stainless Ti mag box and tab screw on the Remington web site for cheaper than the blued from Brownells. Going to give them a call on Monday.

I won't sell my BDL set up that comes with the SPS. I'll keep it as a possible futur upgrade if I get the nerves to Dremel my Ti stock.

On the other end, I'll have a new take off .243Win barrel and a new take off SPS stock for sale on EE soon.:D

Details....Do you guys use a fancy mill or like Bramble said, just Dremel it?

Not sure how ccan does it but I took a 1/8 drill and drilled holes around the edge from the inside....use a very small saw to cut between the holes....a coarse file to finish things up...you have to remove some material between the front screw hole and the magazine well. Remove the front screw escutcheon and put spacers under the front of the floorplate or bed it like cccan does...

real easy BC...just dremel it ..cut it under sized, clean it up with a file...bed it into place and it's done...I'm fairly good at it ..I practiced on Rembo's..made all the mistakes on his
