Tick hazard from carrying shot game?

Are ticks from game birds really something to be worried about? I've heard about fleas from bunnies, but never ticks from birds.

As I say, I'm not sure but I don't want to find out the hard way by getting Lyme from a stupid tick in my coat, it is after all a potentially life altering disease.

And here we go, birds are carriers, not only ground dwellers but song birds as well. All birds must die, especially the delicious ones!

You know, we really need to find a vaccine for Lyme disease, or a systemic anti-tick pill such as is given to dogs. Why are they so lucky?

Animal Hosts

Adult ticks feed and mate primarily on deer. You may also find adult ticks on dogs, horses and other domesticated animals. Nymphs feed primarily on smaller animals. These include squirrels, mice, lizards, rabbits, and birds that feed on the ground. Migratory birds help distribute ticks throughout the country.

Is it poison to dogs? I have a German Shepherd pup, he slept in my coat last night lol

The typical flea collar that you buy for your dog has Permethrin as an active ingredient. Normally very safe for dogs but is metabolized in fat so not safe for low-fat breeds - Greyhounds in particular. This one gets Bravecto as a flea and tick preventative. She has been bitten by ticks but they just die and fall off.

The tick situation in Nova Scotia has been ridiculous in recent years and the incidence of Lyme disease is increasing. It's believed that the explosion in whitetail deer population is a contributing factor as well as climate change. Get out there and hunt those deer! I always wear high boots in the bush, tuck my shirt in and wear long sleeves. The tick needs to be attached for quite some time before it runs the risk of transmitting Lyme - if you check for ticks when you get home you should be good. They're gross as hell and whenever I see one in my house it makes me want to burn the whole place down.

I do believe that there used to be a Lyme vaccine for humans but it was discontinued due to a combination of low incidence of the disease, cost, and questionable effectiveness. Lyme vaccines are routinely administered to dogs in my area.

Not according to the DR we visited. Human vaccines are not available which is unfortunate as the canine one works very well.

I don't believe that map. I live outside the yellow part and often find ticks on my dogs. I had a fully engorged one on my neck after a week at camp outside of Sudbury a couple of years ago. No mirrors up there and no one said anything. Thanks guys! Then again, they may have thought it was a mole or something.
