Sorry for the crappy quality pictures, I'll try to take some in the daytime tomorrow. Looking for suggestions on how to get the finish to be more matte. I bought some Krylon Crystal Clear Satin finish, but I did a test on another object and it was super cloudy/milky looking. Didn't want to risk it. What I've done so far is taken some 0000 steel wool to the paint job, then used a semi gloss clear spray paint by rustolium and then taken more 0000 steel wool to that. It's close, but I'd like to know if there any other options to reduce gloss?

Waiting for a Magpul CTR buttstock and 0.5" cheek riser!

Very nice! What paints did you use and how did you get the strip pattern stencils? Just made your own with masking tape?

I just used green painters tape I ripped and placed on the stock. Then I took the rifle out of the stock and used Rustic Mist, which is sort of a bronze color. Waited for it to dry, and taped up a few pieces over the exisiting exposed tiger stripes and sprayed it with Carbon Mist, which is darker to get the two tone effect. Both are by Rustoleum, got em at Canadian Tire. They had a bit of metalic sheen, and the tapco's black stock was a bit duller, so thats why I did the clear semi gloss and steel wool afterwards.

Great job bowzy, that looks great! Try some satin clear buffed with steel wool after it cures, should turn out good.

That's what I had bought, but when I tried it, it came out very cloudy on another object. Maybe it was too humid that day, according to what others have said online... I'll do another test with it, or get another matte spray product before applying it to the rifle.

I've had good success with VHT's flame proof clear coat from their flame proof line of header paints, crappy tire sells it. It comes out with a bit of sheen like smooth finished plastic parts but the color is never cloudy. Buffing with steel wool takes the sheen out. Check to make sure its compatible with the paint you used first.

I'm generally not a fan of painted guns, but that is an incredible tigerstripe job. Well done! Excellent blending of the tones.

Thanks! I'll have a look at the local store and see if they carry it. I'm not really convinced about Krylons Satin clear. Don't want to waste hours of work to mess up the final coat!
Here is a picture I took outdoors today:

Arma-Coat sells a matte clear finish called Arma-Clear. This finish is supposed to be super tough. You can give them a call or email. They answer to both quickly.

Hmm their 8oz is $40... Might be a little more expensive than I was planning but I'll keep it in mind incase I'm not happy with what I can find locally.
