Tiger Stripe SKS

Very nice indeed!

Bowzy would I be able to use your pics for promo purposes?

And can you post what you did to modify the Tapco stock to accept the Kwik Rail?

Let me finish up the matte clear coat and wait for the new buttstock to arrive. I'll borrow my friends dslr and take some nice pictures for you. It was only really grinding about 2mm of the stock on both sides where the rail meets the stock. Very very minor sanding.

Not sure about the clarity when used with clear coat, but an old signwriters trick to make a glossy paint matte is to add a bit of baby powder...
I would try it first, but you never know. You would need a spray gun.

I need your help guys!

Having a hard time making a decision. I received my Magpul CTR buttstock and cheek riser, but I'm not sure which ones to paint. Stock, riser, or both? I've mocked up in photoshop what it might look like.
I "think" I know what I want to do, but I thought I'd get some input first seeing as its a pricey thing to paint incase I'm not 100% sure :)

I like either just the stock or the stock and riser, the middle pic with just the riser painted looks a bit off. The black riser on painted stock kinda keeps with the black reciever and Kwik rail but if you match the lines across both parts it'll look good painted too. If it were me I would paint the buttstock and see how it looks then decide on the riser. The magpul looks great BTW, how tight is it on the buffer tube? I think a magpul grip would look sweet on there too.

Thanks for the comments, I was thinking the same thing - black cheek riser sorta balances out the rail. Then the cheek riser if needed.

The magpul stock is as tight if not tighter than the stock included with the intrafuse kit. I opted for the bayonet cut stock, so no bottom rail options unless I were to drill some up on my own. Wanted to keep at least some of the original sks look, another reason I got the ATI handguard instead of using the tapco one with the rail at the top.

The ATI handguard looks so much better than the hideous block that tapco gave up on early in the design stage. Lookin good Bowzy, can't wait to see moar!

Up.

sorry for the crappy quality pictures, i'll try to take some in the daytime tomorrow. Looking for suggestions on how to get the finish to be more matte. I bought some krylon crystal clear satin finish, but i did a test on another object and it was super cloudy/milky looking. Didn't want to risk it. What i've done so far is taken some 0000 steel wool to the paint job, then used a semi gloss clear spray paint by rustolium and then taken more 0000 steel wool to that. It's close, but i'd like to know if there any other options to reduce gloss?

I am all for leaving the riser black. It compliments the rail and the barrel and the optics. I would suggest not using cheap clear as you have done such a nice job and you need to keep it protected as long as you can.

Here it is all finished. Thanks for the input everyone! I'll take some better pictures with a DSLR soon, just have my camera phone for now.

Incase anyone was curious, this is how I would tape things off:

First coat was the brighter bronze color:

After that dried I taped off what I wanted to keep the bright color, and then lightly went over the again in the darker color:
