Tiger tank replica

It's strange, the fixation that Russians have with the Tiger tank, even to building a full-size working replica for the movie 'White Tiger' a few years back, using an AT-T as a basis. Over here in UK, however, there is the only operating Tiger 1 in existence, based at the RAC Centre at Bovington Camp in Dorset. It was used in the making of the movie 'Fury'.

There are loads of movies on Youtube of this iconic vehicle futzing around on demo-days down there, if you care to take a look sometime. Comparing it with the contemporary opposition, you can easily see why the sight and sound of a Tiger was such an OMG moment for the Allies - ask anybody who was there at the time.

Don't hink the Russians were the only ones fixed on the Tiger. On the Western front, if a tank showed up on the battlefield , it was inevitably a Tiger. ;) We're still awe struck all these years later.

Between t34/85s and the IS tanks, the soviets had means to deal with tigers by the end of the war. The U.S. had a handful of pershings and we had fireflies which had a capable gun but no armor compared to the kitty.

the tiger had decent armor and a big gun but it was not all that reliable and it was overly complex for the job one of the reasons the Germans did not win is because they could not get enough armor out there. even though is cramped and not made for someone my size id rather have a t34-85

Not to mention, few bridges could carry it. ;)

and to show the insanity they had even bigger tanks the tiger 2 for one but there was 2 prototype panzer VIII "maus" the problems as then went bigger they had more mechanical failures. there was proposed designs for even bigger tanks such as the p,1000 or the p,1500 that would most likely have not worked out well

Actually as with the Panther. The tiger ii did have initial teething problems. But later ironed out most of them. (Besides being underpowered). A lot of the problems was lack of lubricants which the Germans didn't have much of at the end of the war. Another important thing with both Tigers were to have good crews to know the limits of the tanks. Such as traversing to fast and throwing a track. Which was common with new crews.

The Tiger instilled a lot of fear and caution in allied tank crews in NW Europe, but it was probably not the biggest killer of allied tanks. All of the Panther, PzkwIV, StugIII as well as towed 75mm PAK 40, 88mm PAK 43 and DP 88mm FLAK guns combined to take a high toll of allied armour. Then there was the hand held Panzerfaust and Panzerschreck anti-tank weapons. A towed anti-tank gun can be very effective when dug in and protected by infantry as was evident in a lot of the fighting in Normandy. It took a while for the allies to get their indirect artillery support fully integrated into their scheme of maneuver so that the towed (and quite vulnerable) German anti-tank guns could be neutralized or destroyed during their armoured attacks.

Panzerfaust 30, the name signified you had to get within 30 M, not my idea of a good time. ;)
