Tikka 204 Ruger accuracy??????

i have one and its great for shooting coyotes
i dont worry about a cloverleaf shot placements on paper because in the field i dont have sandbags and a shooting bench. LOL
the model I have is the Varmint Heavy Barrel in Stainless Steel.

I have one in a laminate stainless model and and it shoots as good as me. I can hit grophers at 200+ yds with 3 different handloads so I'm happy with it.

A question about the .204. I have shot coyotes with it out of necessity. They were not long distance shots and they were one shot kills. I am wondering if the .204 is a tad light for the job. As an aside I love the calibre. I have a cz from prophet river. I sold a ruger heavy barrel as didnt like the extra weight. Both are very accurate. A farmer friend has a hill he said is "over run" with gophers so Im going to varmint grenade them this summer.

If they were one shot kills, why would you wonder?

A coyote will die if you put that little bullet through his lungs. And that little bullet really isn't that much smaller then the .22's that people have no problem shooting them with at extended distances. (5mm as opposed to 5.5mm)

I have done a lot of reading on various forums on the .204, you would have to look long and hard to find a factory rifle that can't shoot MOA once the right factory load is found.
I have the Tikka T3, stainless in a heavy barrel, chambered in the .204, it absolutly hates to shoot the 40 grain Hornady (1.5"-2"@100yards), very common problem with the Tikka because of the twist rate.
I now shoot Federal Premium 39 Grain Blitz King, I could not imagine a reason to reload, the groups are tight and consistant.
The rifle and chambering you are looking at is a terrific combination.

Here is the first group I shot through mine this winter, boy was I smiling. It's a plain blued T3. I will have to test it further as It's been to friggin cold. I shot about 10 groups from 1" and down. Shows promise. I had a Remington that shot average between .5 and .75 but got rid of it so I could have the detachable mag.

Hurray I just mounted my scope on my Super Varmint, got some reloads ready, now just waitng for a day that isn't -35 degrees out.

I have 35 grain Bergers loaded, Gringo have you tried 35s?, and 39 Blitzkings are also loaded.

I shot some 35's out of the remington with about the same success as the 40's(.5 to .75) and the 39 sierras were just a hair wider in groups. All seem to be good. Great caliber, have fun.

They were close

Sure, I understand that. But, frankly, if you're putting those shots into the vitals (and it seems you are) it won't matter whether the shot is made at 10 yards or 300 yards. The .20 cal has plenty of punch within that envelope, and if you need further confirmation, take a look at the dozens of coyotes taken with .20 cal rifles this season on the Predator Hunt Canada website.

I have a T3 Varmint in .204 and it will shoot the same as Gringo's, they are amazingly accurate. Mine is the most accurate gun I have ever owned and I have owned quite a few.

Well I took my Tikka Super V out today and shot a 3 shot 100 yard group
.336"-.204" = .132" group, not bad under 20 rounds fired including sighting in. An hour later took my new Foxpro and shot a coyote over 200 yards, flattened so hard I thought I missed .
Tried a second stand but I was in the wrong position and the yote just about run over top of me from behind, don't know who was more surprised me or the yote, didn't get him, that's all the time I had for the day.
I am hooked on the 204 Ruger that's for sure, all I can say that Tikkas are accurate that's for sure.
