Howdy folks,

Just wanted to post a few quick pics of my deer/bear gun this year. It started out as a stock Tikka 595 Stainless in 308 Win, that I was fortunate enough to find in a local shop last November. These guns are fantastic in my opinion, much nicer than the T3's. Only drawback is they're heavy, this one weighed 7lbs 5oz stock without scope/mounts. My immediate desire was to build a semi lightweight version of this gun. Back in January, I ordered a McMillan Edge in the Sako Hunter pattern as I had read many great reviews and it was apparent this would shave a significant amount of weight off. Next up was deciding what I wanted for a scope/mount set up. I decided on a VX3 2.5-8x36 in Talley Lightweights. This combo makes a nice lightweight, compact set up.

The stock didn't arrive from McMillan until the beginning of July and I have been so busy with work that I hadn't gotten the chance to put everything together and try'er out. Well it all came together this week and I couldn't be happier. Gun weighs in around 7lbs, 8oz with scope & mounts, so basically what it originally weighed bare. The below group was fired with Hornady 150gr Interbond and I don't think I'll bother reloading for this years hunting. I may cut the barrel to 20" but still not sure, she balances great as it is.

Big thanks to CGN'r Blargon for his tips & answers to my questions. Thanks again,

Cheers,

Patrick

I have an M695 in 300 Winmag that's literally beat to rat sh!t from rough hunts over the years. Awesome rifle, best factory trigger I've come across and incredibly accurate with just about everything I've fed it. It's the blued/synthetic, though there's really no bluing left to speak of.
Does the McMillan have the palm swell like the factory stock? I may have to look into getting one if it does.

It does have the palm swell, it's much much superior to the factory stock and it fits the action/barrel even better

If you've ever seen a sako AV, it's a copy of the factory stock, larger palm swell than the factory stock for sure

My son had a 695 in 270 for a while, great rifle. I only sold it to get him a Sako 75 hunter in 30-06 for a trip to Africa.

Terrific rifles, although today I have a T3 Hunter that I like alot.

Looks good, I was lucky enough to buy Blargons, it is a tack driver, put Swarovski 3.5-18 on it and love this rifle,
Just cut my barrel to 20", hunt timber and slash on the coast. will let you know about accuracy and velocity, my case trimmer is out of order though
Cheers

Nicely done. Good to see more 695 lovers. I went with a McMillan when I restocked my 695. Picked a standard weight Sako Hunter style in a 3-tone McSwirly. A straight drop-in fit. Even without glass-bedding it shoots as well as it ever has (easily sub-MOA with preferred loads). Love it. I'd post a pic but it looks like I'm not allowed to (?).

I have Boyd's nutmeg laminate stock to sell now...
