I bought an Atlasworx bottom metal for AICS mags a bit ago for my Tikka T3x Lite. I was going to get a gunsmith to hog out the Lite stock I have, but found a half decent deal on a CTR stock so I decided to fit the AICS bottom metal to that.

I just tried the CTR stock and 308 mag before I swapped it and it work wonderfully. I then put in the Atlasworx bottom metal and tried a 3 round polymer MDT mag and it worked great. I then tried a 5round metal MDT mag and it will not seat. It seems to be catching on the receiver at the front of the mag, but I may be wrong.

Anyone run I to this problem? I am happy the polymer mag works, but it kond of defeats the purpose of switching from one polymer mag to another if all that will fit are those. Is there any difference between a T3x Lite and CTR action that may be causing this problem?

I actually answered my own question. I was going to ask to delete this, but thought I would answer my question here for someone else. If you snug the screws down nice and tight and then try to drop the mag in, it may not fit. However, if you put the magwell in loose, add the mag, and then tighten the screws down tight, it works fine.

Atlasworx mostly has the release lever slightly too long. This is deliberate as some bed their rifles slightly higher. Mags also have some tolerance. Best is to fit that mag system maybe even bed it in a wood or composite stock then adjust the release so that the magazine of choice just clicks in place with slight pressure. Slight pressure means mag is up high and presents the cartridge better as well as less rattle. We fit many Atlasworx T3 AICS/CTR mag systems to our stocks and they mostly need around 1mm Lever ground off. The height adjustment of the stock for us is to have the original action screws in the right position with CTR mag system.

Downside, the action is now resting on the mag... not the stock inletting. fire a few times and things are going to move around.

If you can bed the action with the mag acting as an index point, the action will stay in place and all still fit. Or bed normally, shorten the latch in the dbm or 'lift' the catch on the mag until all fits... or shim the entire dbm lower.

For best accuracy, you want that barreled action to be stable and supported. The mag and dbm are adjusted to fit as necessary.
