I am hoping that forum members may be able to help me out with some recommendations on mounting a Burris Six X 2-12X50 (30mm tube) to a Tikka T3 Lite in 22-250.

I'm looking for all black matte finish, and really like the idea of one piece ringmounts (Optilock, Talleys, Warne etc.)

I've read a bit about limited scope position/eye relief with the Optilocks, so wondered if anyone has used them with a T3 and Six-X?

Do you know anyone in Ontario that sells these?

I mistakenly bought a set of Leupold Ringmounts for SAKO (30mm, HIGH, S1037, Matte) in the US which do not fit the Tikka, as the SAKO rail is tapered while the Tikka is straight, so these are now for sale if anyone is interested.

Thanks for your help.

I have learned that the Tikka Ringmounts (http://www.tikka.fi/optilock.php?ringmounts), as nice as they look, are not available in Canada. It is a new product, and nobody can get them out of Finland yet. Sounds like it is months away, and no cheaper than Optilock rings and bases!

So I think if I'm looking at Ringmounts, I am limited to Millet Angle-Loc, Warne Fixed Ring, or Talley One-Piece mounts.

Does anyone have any suggestions/advise about any of these, or know of any other "ringmount" options?

Thanks

Couple years back I searched everywhere for the Optilock ring mounts, no luck at all...but did find out that they'd be pricey, $150 range or more.

Warnes or Talleys best bet, but I think you'll find the Warne a tad tough to find in Canada.

One other option, Game Reaper by DNZ Products. One piece aluminum. Get pretty good reviews on 24hourcampfire.com.

Again, probably tough to find in Canada, but not too expensive and possibly not a problem to order up. Try Midway USA, should be available in matte black or silver...

What I did end up doing was going with Leupold #54447 bases and Burris Signature medium rings. For 50mm objective, high rings probably needed. Very solid setup. The Leupold bases are shaped to somewhat wrap over the edges of the integral rail...

I like that set-up, looks solid but not too chunky. I like the fact the Leupold bases fit over the Tikka rail, but I think they only come in gloss finish? Ideally I'm trying to stay all matte finish.

The burris base comes in matte, but doesn't appear to use the rail, just the tapped holes.

I can offer Burris and Leupold bases. I like the Burris XTB 2 pcs steel bases. These are matte and bolt to the factory holes. Then you can use any Weaver style ring. Simple and effective.

My personal favorite rings are the Burris Sig ZEE rings w/ inserts.

Eye relief has as much to do with the scope as the rings/base. The XTB bases should allow you to reverse one base to move a slot over the ejection port. This would aid in moving the scope 'back' a bit - but so much is affected by the scope tube and the location of the turrents.

Let me know...

The Leupolds are gloss finish, but don't really stand out as such. Don't look noticeably out of place.

I didn't like the Burris bases, either, for that reason. I think that by folding over the rails, the Leupolds should be stronger...not to mention, look better. Ultimately, only the screws that hold 'em on...same as most other bases.

Been on the rifle for several seasons, and through probably 100 rounds of .300 WSM so far. No slippage, nothing has come loose, very solid and reliable set up. And as stated in other threads, I'm a huge proponent of the Signature rings. No lapping, no alignment issues, and no ugly scars left on expensive scopes.

Side note: If had to do it all over, probably stick with a matte black scope. While the silver looks good, it definitely is a tad flashy out in the woods.

Just thought I'd mention that with a Tikka you will find that medium rings will give you enough clearance with a 50mm objective. The highs aren't needed.

Thank-you to all for your help and insight. I went with a pair of Talley's from Corlane Sporting Goods (call Tim, he was very helpful), mounted them up, and was shooting 3 shot groups withing an inch today at 100 yds, within 15 shots, using "old school" bore sighting, starting at 25 yds. So far, so good. The yotes were howling in the distance at the range, in the middle of the day - they must know what is coming!

I have my Burris scope mounted with Burris mount and rings. A fraction of the price of the Tikka Mounting system, and it very solid.

I got my gun and scope mounted at Ellwood Epps, they have several different mounting options available in their store. They are in Orillia, Ontario, and a site sponsor, at the top of the page.
