Tikka / Budget Sako Question.

I'm not sure of the varmint contour on the T3, only that B&C says not to open the barrel channel on the Medalist stock. In saying that, guys on other sites have done it and say they had no problem and there is enough material to do so

If you're going to restock a T3 with a B&C/McM you would be better off with a Winchester Extreme Weather/Kimber. It will cost the same and comes with a B&C/Kimber stock from the factory as well as all steel bolt, bottom metal/bolt/etc and will likely have similar accuracy. The advantage of the T3 is it's cheap and accurate, drop $$$ into a new stock and/or bottom metal and the T3 has lost it's advantage. I much rather have a bone stock Winchester EW, Kimber or Sako for the same money as a dressed up T3 - accuracy will be similar and resale value will be much higher with a OEM rifle.

Cinch I agree! If adding bottom medal, no question. If I could of found a Sako Hunter Laminate I would of bought it. I lengthend my magazine last night so I hope it will save me $400.00 in bottom metal.

I have a Sako 85 Bavarian carbine with a set trigger and all the nice metal bits. However, I also own a T3 Sporter with the set trigger, and in my opinion, the T3 holds it's own. I happen to really like the no nonsense polymer mags and trigger guard. The T3 bolt is as slick as snot. I have never had a feeding hiccup. I'm not particularly hung-up on needing metal replacement parts, which only take away from the T3's advantage - less heavy crap to rust and dent. The T3 is also more accurate in my case, but that's more a function of different design intentions. Overall, both are well made.

Good point Kurgan, if I would have bought the Sako I wouldn't know how great the Tikka was. Now that I have made changes to the mag, I agree with you on your bottom metal points. Switching out my T3 stock to the B&C stock was still worth it. In fact I like the gun so much I'm planning on rebarreling it to a 17-204 instead of useing a Stiller action.
