Been looking at just a few of them and have noticed that some have a distinct rusty colour in the checkering .. is this common or why the diff , just staining , seems odd .. Which have you seen and prefer ... any reason to stay away for the coloured checkering

I could be wrong but I think its just a bit of residual burn from the machine head that they use to cut the checkering. My grey laminate Mossberg has the same thing, probably just shows up through the grey stain more compared to your typical brown colored wood stock. I wouldn't be worried about it unless you consider it a true eye sore. T3s are great rifles.

It's because the machine that did the checkering cut through the finish colour and into the next layer of laminate.

Same on the newer Marlins, Mossberg, Remington's, etc.
