Hi Guys, new to the long range precision game and looking at a first build now that I have to look at some different options. I've shot both tikkas and a cross in 6.5 and remember liking them both but only put a few rounds through each. I'm looking at a .308. question is do I go with a tikka and build it out, was looking at a KRG Whisky chassis and the fixings or go with a sig cross? The cross has some features I like but want options on what the better platform would be. Options on an optic would be appreciated too, I would be primararly shooting 3-500 yards, can't really find much past that where I live.
Thank you.

Not sure your budget but I have a sig cross in 6.5 the original one and the ranges your looking at the sig will do you well not sure the prices now but for what your getting it’s pretty hard to beat and doubles as a compact light weight hunting rig with factory hornady 140 grain match is sub moa. My buddy has one in .308 and is also very impressive only thing else I have to compare in 6.5 would be my cadex sheepdog in 6.5 but that’s a different breed.

I’ve got an sig cross in 308 and once I’ve found the ammo it liked, it became super accurate and consistent. The accuracy range from one type of ammo to another is astounding (see photo for 100yd, 3 shot group comparison).

The lightweight folding aspect is awesome for hunting if you’re into that. Mine has already taken a bear and black tail deer this year within 300yds.

I went the tikka route , bought a tikka t3x varmint heavy barrel in 308 and got it on sale for around 1300 plus tax. I added a mdt oryx stock and love it

In a similar scenario as yours I got the CTR and put it in an MDT LSS with a folding buttstock. Sig Cross form with Tikka reliability and aftermarket. Shoots like a Tikka is its best trait. That said, while I actually do love taking it to the range, the setup is optimized for walking around with it. Take a look at the Varmint if you plan to shoot this from a bench, heavier barrel but not factory threaded.

As the owner of an Sig Cross “regular” in 308/16” barrel configuration I can say for your purpose of long range precision it is not the answer. The rifle is quite accurate with loads it likes. It is an excellent hunting rifle. The light weight is not great for extended range sessions.
There is a PRS version of the Cross that may work for that purpose but I’ve never seen one in person.
I think a Tikka would be a better choice.
Aftermarket second only to Rem700, decent trigger and barrel. Buy a CTR or varmint, plop it in a chassis, mount a big scope and go shoot. If you want to change things it’s easy to find parts, the same is not true for the Cross…yet

CTR would be my choice. Sell the mag/mag system and replace with Atlasworx AICS/CTR . Use 3-5 shot MDT plastic mags for hunting and 10 shot steel for the range.
We bought two stainless 20" 308 CTR's. Had around 4fps difference in barrel speed and shot under 1/4". Sold one to my hunting friend the other we kept as a rifle to test stocks/scopes and other gear.
Both rifles shot with the same box of Hornady 168gr match factory load. Sitting in an aftermarket carbon stock.

I'm a fan of both these guns; I like Tikkas in general and if I spent any significant amount of time pursuing long range precision shooting I would select the Tikka for that. I don't do that kind of shooting, and yet I still am tempted by the CTR rifles; if they used AICS mags I would likely have one. But they don't, and I simply won't buy one and then have to kiss its ass with its own unique and uniquely expensive magazines. Sure, it can be modified with aftermarket parts, but...I have enough rifles that are already set up the way I like them, without buying more that I know ahead of time aren't what I want and then being forced to spend time and money fixing them.

The Sig Cross is not a true longrange precision rig, but it is a wonderful, fairly lightweight hunter that ticks off a lot of boxes for me. It's accurate and handles beautifully, despite the fact that I am not a lover of AR-style ergonomics. The Cross has a delightful ambidextrous safety which I really like; that safety and the fact that it is an all-in-one receiver rather than an action bolted into a chassis are the two features that really hooked me into buying one. And unlike a lot of other rifles that I bought because they offered some unique and different feature...I am liking the Cross more and more the longer I keep it and use it.

But, of course...YMMV...:)

Nice groups but I’ve never saw a group measured in mm.
