Tikka CTR vs Tikka Varmint

I’m have narrowed down my gun search to the Tikka T3 Varmint and the Tikka T3 CTR.
The Varmint comes with a 22mm barrel thickness and no muzzel break.
The CTR comes with 20mm barrel thickness and with a muzzle break.
I will be using the gun primarily for target shooting and may be hunting down the road.

Is 2mm of a difference noticeable when it comes to the barrel getting hot let’s say after firing 20 rounds?

What are the pros and cons for each and what will be the better pick for my scenario?

Out of the two, I found the varmint felt way more front heavy, so less desirable for hunting.
The CTR is manageable depends on how long you can hold it steady… lol

both excellent guns.

if you ever plan on modding - stock replacement, extra mags, optics etc, you may want the varmint.
varmint
- rings can be direct mount to receiver, or you can use 0, 20, 30 MOA rails
- mags - std plastic mag is 6 round approx depending on caliber. but if you swap stocks you can use AICS mags. if you stay with the original stock, the plastic mags are cheaper than the CTR mags.
- Stock - same as CTR except bottom metal

CTR
- comes with rail (0 MOA) already installed
- muzzle threaded
- mags are good but EXPENSIVE - 200.00 plus/mag
- some CTR's are special editions - IE cabela's has a brake in box and set trigger.

they both will do sustained strings without adverse group effect. they both will fit in aftermarket stocks.,

CTR: 20" or 24" barrel
Varmint: 24" barrel

- Easier to take the 20" CTR hunting
- CTR comes with a Picatinny rail
- The barrelled action is the same, so can put it in any aftermarket stock.
- You would be splitting hairs and burning through a lot of ammo to determine a statistically significant difference in accuracy after a 20-rd string.
 
I have a varmint in 308 and with hand loads it’s easy to shoot 0.5-0.75 inch groups at 100 yards. I have only switched out the stock
 
Depending on the price difference id go ctr. I like the mags better and ive done long strings many times on my ctr profile barrels without issue.
