I was wondering if any gun nutz have any experience with the tikka M 07 and what your thoughts on them are, good or bad. The one I am looking is 12 ga over 222. I have tried researching them on the net but can't find alot of info on them. Any info would really be appreciated.

Got one; It's a bit of a niche-market gun - not a "real" hunting gun, nor a target shooter. However, the 222 pipe is accurate to plink with, and the 12-gauge, well, it's a single shot 12 gauge. What can I say. The great thing is that it breaks down and fits into a backpack (depending on the size of the backpack, of course,) and for the last 35 years it has accompanied me on off-hunting season camping trips in bear country - a varmint round in the 222 pipe, and a buck-shot shell or a slug in the 12 gauge. If I had a farm, that would be ideal combo gun to tote in a truck to deal with livestock predators, varmints, etc. Add a scope on a QD mount, and you are set.

Thanks for the info TAP, you wouldn't happen to know what twist these 222 barrels normally have? As I said I can't find hardly any info on these and being a handloader I'm already looking at different loads and would like to find out find what twist these barrels and whether they shootheavier bullets (70 gr) very well since I have a bunch of Barnes triple shock leads.I am not expecting a real tack driver by any means but even a 2" group at 100 yds with the heavier bullets and I would be happy.

I believe it's 1:14" but I'll double check tomorrow. So 70 grain bullets may be a bit too heavy. So far I have shot only factory ammo, most of it 55 grain bullets. If I do my part, 1" groups at 100m is no problem. I can't comment on how heavier bullets would behave.

If you end up getting a M07, send me a PM and I'll send you a few tips and tricks I've learned from others re: these combo guns.

Thanks for all the replies TAP, I hate to be be a pain a pain but I was wondering what make and model your quick detach mount was?

No worries. First of all, just confirmed that the twist is in fact 1:14" Second, the QD mount in the photo was purchased used from CGN EE, and it has no brand visible. I still have the Redfield scope on the same see-through rings on that mount. These work, but I've got another more recent acquisition, a Ma-Si QD11 mount. The base is not really any different, but Ma-Si ring design and construction are much better than anything else I've used. I now have a Nikon 4-12x40 on that mount, and this set-up is good for plinking at the range.

Word of caution: Both QD mounts have an index pin, but M07 index pin groove is in a "wrong" spot. So, a second groove has to be machined by a gunsmith, a quick job for any gunsmith. Using the sight rail to index the mount apparently may result in damage to both.
