Hi all,
Picked up a Tikka m558rh in .223 today. Rifle looks mint with an older taco scope. Beautiful tiger striped walnut stock.
Can’t find much info on these older tikkas so wondering if anyone has any info on age, value, etc.

Shot it today and it’s a laser! Pretty much a ragged hole all day if you hold up your end...

M558 was produced for only a few years around '83 - '85 approx. Don't hold me to that though as factory records of build dates are scarce since Sako bought them out in the 80s. It was an updated version of the M55/65 line but was short lived due to the popularity of the 595/695 line. You have a very fine rifle that will sell for $800 all day to anyone who knows what they're looking at. If in mint condition, you may see $1,000 from the right candidate. Enjoy your new rifle, it will likely out last you.

I am pretty sure the M55 was actually an ITHACA LSA model 55
I owned the above a 22-250 varmint model 40 years ago...very accurate ...quality hardwood stock and all metal components
I'm only going by memory without googling to refreshen my thoughts.

The M-55/LSA-55 receivers are identical. I own both and they interchange in every way. The stock and barrel stampings are the difference. M55 typically has a dark cherry wood whereas the Ithaca typically has blonde wood.

Oy Tikkakoski Ab made the Ithaca rifles for the Ithaca Gun Company of New York and were sold as an American brand throughout the US and Canada. They are every bit a Tikka using a barrel made by Bofors steel who made 40mm anti-aircraft barrels during WW2. The magazine of an Ithaca also lacks the wings of a Tikka magazine but are interchangeable amongst the same caliber rifles.
