With about a dozen deer living in my yard I’m looking at getting into that this fall. Have a T3 that I enjoy shooting in .223, looking to go 6.5 Creedmoor with the new unit. Question being, Tikka still building quality units? Is there a model that will work well weight/recoil wise and handle half decent optics?

T3X blued or stainless. I'm not sure what you are asking here: "Handle half decent optics".

I think he's wondering if it will handle one of these bad a$s optics?

Yes some good glass, I thought there was an issue with my T3 and mounting but probably misremembering.

Just use your T3 223 Rem with Barnes Ammo - There loaded with the 55 TTSX bullet - Kill DEER Good ! jmo RJ

Need something that can handle distances a little better, would rather not be swapping optics each season. May as well fill up the safe.

Thanks for the input so far guys

Why 6.5 creedmoor for a dedicated deer gun?

And beaver, be nice to have more range for some of the big sloughs. Seems like a good balance of velocity, weight and recoil, or is there something else worth while looking at?

Your 223 is legal for deer in Saskatchewan. If your plan is to shoot one off the doorstep you have all the rifle you need.

That’s good to know, thanks. If you count where they ate on the canola this last year it’s a fair area to cover. Wife won’t put up much fuss with a hunting rifle purchase if she is able to shoot it as well.

I have a 6.5 stainless lite. Nothing fancy, super slick & accurate as heck. Like off a pack at 300 yards clanging pie plate steel. Recoil is mild and no issue, can shoot it all day. Great caliber / rifle combo. I generally hunt with something with a little more 'ooommpphh' (.308/.358) but this year for deer season the 6.5 might be the ticket. I have a steiner GS3 2-10x42 on the 6.5 mounted in warne mountain tech rings and it is a sweet, solid, optically awesome setup.

Tikka T3x TAC A1 in .223 here. Recent purchase. Replaced factory muzzle brake with MDT and it is super accurate. I would presume the 6.5 version's build and performance quality is just as high.

Can a guy even get 6.5 creedmoor ammo anywhere? Seems like everything is out of stock, and $3-4 per round which seems nuts

I hear ya. When I recently went to get my T3x my first choice was 6.5 Creedmoor. A buddy who has a 6.5 rifle told me "don't do it - you won't find ammo anywhere". Sure enough, I looked at it is sold out pretty badly and what was still available seems to be more boutique type of either high end rounds - no basic PMC Bronze level of basic range ammo. I saw the prices and nearly fell off my chair. Second choice was in .308, and while the ammo was slightly cheaper and basic rounds were still avaialble, the store I bought it at didn't have any .308 T3xes. So I picked a .223 since I have plenty of that already at home.
