So, what's the difference between the T3 and the 595, 695?

Sure, there's a synthetic stock and stainless options, but what are the other differences?

This is mostly directed toward finding one and rebuilding it into a custom precision rifle.

Cheers!

595 is a short action, 695 is a long action. T3's are all the same length. The mag box releases are different, the mags themselves are different. The 595/695's were also available with synthetic stocks and stainless. There's a stainless/synth 695 in 300 Win Mag on the Exchange Forum.

My M695 (.338), has a larger ejection port and a more pronounced palm swell than the T3.

And, as stated above, a diffrent magazine system.

Becuase the 595/695 came in two distinct action sizes, they were (in my opinion) they were better suited to the rounds that they were chambered for.

Going to a "one-size-fits-all" action was a real cost cutter in my opinion. However, those who own T3's appear to like them a lot.

Over the years, I have been very happy with my M695.

I owned a 695 30-06 (great rifle) and other than the look of the T-3 (which i dont find bad) and others do?? I like the T-3's over the 695 my own preferance many guys like th eolder vs the new!!!
As mentioned the T-3's are built all on long actions, and a bit light for the larger calibers, my 338 T-3 knockes the shooter around a bit but for hunting it works great.
Accuracy I do not think anyone can question the accuracy of the T-3s

...and going back even further, before the 595/695 there were the M-55 and M-65.

These were all steel Tikkas.....very well made.

Here's one an M-65 Deluxe that I have.

The 595/695 55/65 series are very nice rifles, they have a bit more heft to them than the T3's. My son shot a 695 in 270 win that I sold on this board, it lasted a few weeks and then I went to the range one day and shot a 200 yard group that measured about 3/4 of an inch. After posting a pic it sold next day. it was a very nice functional rifle.

Have a 695 stainless/synthetic in 6.5x55mm and a 595 blued/synthetic in .308 Win. Nice rifles. But I do like the slimmer T3's, too. Hoping to get one in .260 Rem some day.

Thanks! here are my thoughts:

It would be nice to buy a shootable rifle right away, and make my modifications one at a time when the money is available. I would get some nice optics first. Then make or buy a stock suited to me, channeled for the eventual barrel contour. Next, a custom heavy barrel (not so huge as to block bed, I'd be much more comfortable to pillar bed and float the barrel), and I will install it and ream the chamber and throat myself. Then I'll address the trigger.

This would leave the original action, reciever, and floorplate assembly. The considerations for the original rifle are the proper action length, size of bolt face, and quality of parts that will remain in the finished product.

I had a look at a T3 today, and what concerned me was the cheap plastic floorplate, magazine assembly, and the plastic part at the rear of the bolt. The magazine and bolt are not serious compared to the floorplate, it has to go.

So, do the older ones have the same sort of parts that I have noted, or are they of better quality? It has been a while since I had my hands on one. I'm starting to consider a T3 because it seems that no one wants to sell their left-handed 595/695's! I am also considering the Nesika Bay action, and might end up with the rem 700, but I really like the tikka. Again, thanks for your help.

Cheers!
(p.s. I ask this in the hunting rifle forum because almost all of these rifles are set up for hunting, mine will be for targets too.)

I think the T3 have a different bedding system where a seperate block of steel is used as the recoil lug. I am not sure as my T3 is the only rifle I have not had to take apart to "fix" something. Reserch it, I am sure you will find somthing on the bedding.
