Are they supposed to be tight or loose?
I own two tikkas. one T3 lite and one stainless laminate. The lug in the synthetic stock is tight. I cant pull it out by hand. The lug in my laminate stock falls out if i tip it over.
Is this bad? should i fix it?

that's what i was thinking.
after i bought my first T3 lite, i became i tikka fan.
then i spent more money on a laminate stainless.
when i saw the loose lug i was quite dissapointed.
i was told by the salesman that some are loose and some are tight and that's normal. i didn't like hearing that.

Question - how does it shoot? If it is performing adequately for your needs why tinker with it.

How frequently do you remove the barreled action from the stock? Mine might come out once a season so recoil lug fit is of little concern if it is performing well.

Id be gettin it looked at if i were you. Just take it to a different shop or phone Tikka and just ask is all I would do. Cant be to safe when it comes to stuff like that imo

My hunting pardner is a machinist and has replaced all our T3 recoil lugs with better fitting steel lugs and properly bedded them.
It does make a difference..

Did you notice an accuracy change?
I can't help but think it will help.
In my experience, tikka's shoot very well.
So far my 308 has not lived up to expectation.

All three rifles thus re -done did shoot tighter groups but was it the change in recoil lugs, pillar bedding, or the overall complete re-bedding that did that I do not know.
However, I do know that it gave me peace of mind to know that the actions could not move around in the stocks.
If you 308 is not shooting as well as you would like I think it would be worth a try. A friend had a T3 in 308 and it is unbelieveably accurate out of the box.

That is bad. Get it bedded. Accuracy should improve. I had a loose lug in a Hunter stock and accuracy was ok but it would occasionally go erratic. I swapped stocks for a Tikka synthetic with a very tight lug and accuracy is superb now and consistent.
