Tikka recoil with magnums

I have a T3x Lite in 7mm Rem Mag, not much more to it than a .30-06. Wear a sissy pad at the bench to zero and go hunt. With good form you won't even really notice it when taking a shot on game.

I owned a T3 hunter chambered 338 Win Mag. The recoil was no Maiden's caress, believe me.
I put a limb saver on it, which helped some, but it was not a nice behaving rifle on the
bench. Dave.

I had a 270 win t3 with synthetic stock. Nice shooting gun, i loved the crisp trigger, but recoil was near the max i want in a hunting rifle. to avoid starting a flinch habit i sold it off. in 300 wm? no thanks.

I had a t3x superlite in 7 rem mag that shot 175 partitions great. Hunting wise I never noticed the kick. Any other time recoil was noticed and after 5 or so shots it wasn't fun anymore lol. I am more accurate and relaxed shooting a gun that fits me good. My 300, 338 and my 375 stocks fit me better than any tikka stock has. Although there is more recoil from these rifles, the recoil is tolerable alot longer at the range. Best way to find out is shoot it and you'll know once you feel the recoil. I've sold the M70's I've had in the past as the stocks made felt recoil for me seem worse than it is.

I'm also looking to buy a Tikka T3X Hunter with the wood stock in either 7 mm Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag.

Any big differences between the Tikka with the plastic stock VS the wood stock in term of recoil reduction ?

I have shooted a Savage 110 in 300 Win Mag, it was less recoil than a shotgun with 3½ shells or a BlackPowder gun in 50 caliber with a 100 gr powder shot...

Thanks for he feedback.

I had a wooden stocked T3 in 300 until a friend twisted my arm until I sold it to him. Recoil was considerably less than a tupperware. Factory recoil pad is crap in either case, but a little weight goes along ways.

I personally would not own a synthetic T3 in anything bigger than a 30-06 or 7mag.

I've not shot one with a walnut stock. As mentioned, a bit more weight would not be a bad thing with a better pad.

Agreed, the wood stock seems to soak up a bit of the bite through weight and materials - the wood seems to "absorb" a bit of the vibration and the extra weight cuts it down. The polymer stock is pretty unforgiving if it doesn't fit you properly.

Something else I noticed in my t3 lite 300 Wm after a couple/few years was the recoil lug getting a slight mushroom (figure if speach, it was pretty minimal, but movement non the less). Not sure if non magnums do the same thing or not, but seemed like that lug took a chit kickin.

I have a T3Lite laminate .300WM.

I don't find the recoil bad. I have shot it with a 30.06 Tupperware and .300wsm Tupperware one after another and didn't find the laminate stock to have as much muzzlejump or sharp recoil.

My lug got peened but the damage never spread after the initial malformation. You can flip them around if I recall correctly. T3 not T3x but not sure if it matters

I have a T3X in 338WM. When shooting from the bench for an extended session I use a Past recoil pad. Not a bad rifle to shoot at all. I got beat up more, way more from a light guide gun 45/70 and stout cast loads. I really don't think it is that bad at all. It also has a KalixTeknik cheek riser which, I believe, aids in felt recoil.

Honestly I wouldn't shy away from heavy recoiling guns for hunting. Just use something like the Past pad when you are at the range so you dont develop a flinch. In the field you wont even notice.

I find them to really whip my cheek but the factory stock does not fot me hence why i dont own one. A t3 in synthetic in 300wm has way more felt recoil than my 458wm interarms mk x

I don't know why some people keep pairing kickers like the 300 Winchester with rifles like the T3 Lite that weighs under 6.5 lbs. That's a recipe for a flinch more than almost anything else offered. Combine that with the fact that most people can't shoot a 9lb 300 Winchester worth a damn and it just doesn't make any sense. Nice rifle to carry, but no fun to do load development.
