Tikka - slick actions ??

Smooth is relative )

but when you really shoot and cycle with cartridges you won't even notice the difference most of the time.

Nice!

I'll admit, after handling a Sako and a Tikka and getting a feel for the actions and smooth feeding I knew ether one was going to be my next purchase for my main hunting rifle.

My Tikka T3 Forest in .260 rem. I was pleasantly surprised when I received this in the mail, I had ordered it sight unseen from Prophet River.

Almost a shame to be hauling this around in the truck and through the bush............. Almost.

I have some 700s, Weatherby, Fn M98, Sakos, Sauer, Brownings, Husky 1600, M03, no tikas but i figure that the Sakos are as smooth as the Tikas, and from the bunch the smoothest is the Sauer.
Also a Kropatschek and a Vergueiro, smooth as butter:)
And i don't care what people say i love smooth bolts, my preference.

It’s because they’re sloppy. The sloppy fit gives the illusion of smooth. A Sauer 202 is smooth. Even Sako are sloppy. Takes nothing away though from the fact that both are great guns. Just when you operate the bolt to a Sauer 202, there is little to no play. The bolt is fitted very tight and it’s by far one of the smoothest actions out there. Oddly enough, the old Remington 600 Mohawk is also very smooth and has a tight fitted bolt like a Sauer 202. One of Remington’s nicest guns they ever made. Sadly discontinued for a long time.

Yup Tikka are very smooth, yup, there is some slop there too. I honestly don't care that it is a bit sloppy when the bolt is OPEN, they lock up tight and shoot great. They are a great rifle, and a great action to build on, they have their idiosyncrasies like any other action/rifle does but in the end that are great rifles and perform very well for the money, to me they represent great value.

There are lots of really smooth bolt action rifles to choose from, most push feed rifles meet that criteria, it's not a huge selling feature IMHO as budget rifles like an Axis or 783 are as smooth as anything else for under $500.
Now...a nice smooth feeding 98 based rifle is something to admire, controlled round feed that feels like a push feed is gold.
