I was looking for feedback on the Tikka Sporter. How would it compare to a T3 Lite or Varmint in terms of accuracy. I was planning on target shooting only, no hunting. Also, would the instability of the wood stock affect accuracy very much or is that a problem only at very high levels of competition?

Old Badger has a Tikka Super Sporter with a wood stock, and it does not shift POI.
Niether do my TR rifles.

If the wood is not seasoned bedded, or finished properly, it will wonder like a cheap synthetic stock.
If a high dollar synthetic stock is not bedded properly, it will wonder also.

i cant answer your question about the gun itself, but i hear that wood shifts in different temps climates so i would go with a synthetic. just my 2 cents
It's more than likely that your follow-up shot wil be in the same climate zone & at the same ambient air temperature, so this shouldn't be an issue. It's possible that in seven months from now in mid December, your POI may be different from today, but again the follow-up shot will be the same as the first.

Rubikahn:

You can forget T3 as it is merely an above average hunting rifle.

The Sporter is discontinued. A good used one can be found $750-$1,000. I haven't heard of any wood stock problem with the Sporter.

The Varmint ($1000) is an accurate varmint rifle, which can be used for target shooting by some. For serious target shooter, go for the Tactical ($1,500) or even better Sako TRG 42 ($3,000+) for real competition shooting. Of course, you can go the custom route.

You need a deep pocket to play this game.
