The dove tail is designed to accept Tikka Optilock bases and optilock rings, available in blue or stainless. Very expensive. The T-3 is tapped for standard bases. I know that both weaver and Leupold make them. I think that the Leupold are the best but are available only in blue. US sold Tikkas come with a light weight ring base system but not available in Canada.

Skip the Optilocks and go with a Burris Signiture Zee ring and weaver bases. I had this set up on all my tikkas and has preformed flawlessly. The inserts in The Burris are great for scope protection and for not having to worry about lapping the rings.
I wish the Sako were drilled and tapped for weaver bases, would make things alot easier and cheaper.

Cheers!!

Thanks. The reciever is tapped for some additional base. That's where I'll start.

If you are doing the job yourself, use some type of thread tap after you remove the tap screws, as tikkas are not tapped very well. Note: If you buy Leupold bases, not all supplied screws are the same length. The one that is slightly shorter goes in the hole above the bolt lock. Otherwise even though the bolt seems to ####, it will not fire.

Tikka rings

While we're on the topic fellas, and since I'm either buying from the EE or mail order and not able to eye ball, will I need medium or high rings? The gun has a tapered barrel and the scope will have a 50mm objective.
