Tikka t1x or Ruger Precision .22? Piggy bank is getting close to one of them.

I hunt with a tikka t3 6.5x55, so I am kinda favouring the Tikka but the Ruger seems like it could be a fun little .22 as well. We currently own a pair of 10-22's with about 20k though them. My spare change bucket is sitting close enough to buy either of them and I have enough scopes to put a decent one on it. Something in the range of a bushnell 3500 / burris fullfield II / Vortex viper.

I want to shoot small things at up to 100 yards, kill some gophers and shoot grouse in the bean. I'm kinda torn because I think the Tikka might shoot better but the Ruger looks cooler, if that matters.

Which gun could consistently shoot golf balls at 100 yards with a decent enough scope?

Thanks everyone.

Ryan

Tikka for the win. You can always make it look cool later on if you want to.

Tikka without a doubt. Pm me if you want yours to be as awesome as mine 😉

Don't rule out some of the cheaper offerings. If you want an accurate bolt gun for hunting, check out the Marlin XT-22 series. Phenomenal value and very accurate.

I had one, but my 13” barrelled Norinco bolt 22 outshot it. I did some reading on the Tikka and the Ruger; I will be buying a CZ.

I own three; a Brno 452 and two CZ 455s; one in .22 one in 17HMR. These are among the most common and preferred rifles at our club for both scope and open sight. Neither out shoot my long barreled Nork, but they shoot as well as it did, and feel and handle way nicer. Those who have them, never sell them.

I'll put in a vote for the Ruger Precision Rimfire. I was on the fence a few weeks ago, and like you, was trying to decide between the two. I pulled the trigger on the Ruger and have not been disappointed.

Don't let the negative reviews on the forums scare you. I'm sure there are some rifles that come off the line a little worse for wear, and you're almost guaranteed to have an offcentre handguard (easily fixed). But I received a rifle that shoots .5" at 50yards provided I do my part, and with a little more time behind it, is most definitely capable of better.

The first outing I had with the RPRR, I tried a couple of groups using Eley Tenex after getting a zero with CCI Standard Velocity. I know that's an expensive round but I wanted to ensure the rifle's potential. I was able to produce a couple of .25" groups that I'm certain could be more consistent if I wasnt as weak of a link.

In my opinion, if you are leaning more toward target shooting then I'd suggest the Ruger. However if you're going to be walking around hunting varmints, then on all likelihood, the Tikka will better suit your needs.

Try both! I think I would prefer the Tikka T1X in this case, but I'm not a huge fan of the American Precision either. Id much prefer the standard target model if I was going the Ruger American. Go to your local gun store and try both if you can, that's why gun stores are there, to try em out!

Ok, so back on the wait list for this one. I’ll try to pick it up before grouse season in September. A good ex-infantry gun nut buddy of mine suggested that we each buy fedarm fx4 shotguns because they were on sale. I couldn’t argue with his logic. Be here any day now. I have about 8 shotguns, but nothing quite like that one.

Tikka - mine is dead nuts accurate and a lot of fun.

50 yards

100 yards

That said I shoot grouse with a CZ in 17HMR as it's pretty much flat from 25-125yds
