Im going to start reloading my own ammo for my 223. i use 55 grain hornady up to this point for both paper punching and coyote hunting. i want to reload some 80 grains to give them a try, but as you tikka owners know, some if not all will not fit into the magazine at proper seating depth. Has anyone tried using a .308 mag in there .223? The action is the same in both and should interchange but will the cartridge hold in the magazine? im sure some one has tried this out there??

Even if a .223 round would stay in the .308 mag, there is a block at the back of the magazine that the rounds sit against. Your .223 bolt would not likely pull back far enough to catch the rim of the case, so would require modding the bolt stop.

i seem to think it would go back far enough to pick up the next round. it is a long action and the .223 mag is spaced forward so the short round can begin to feed into the chamber before it is released from the mag lips

They are all long actions, but have different bolt stops for magnums, .30-06 cases, .308 cases and .223 cases.

You can always try it. If it doesn't work, return the mag.

damnit! i was afraid of that. thanks though, that was just the info i needed! anyone have suggestions on how to shoot 80 gr .223 in the t3?... one at a time haha?

thank maybe ill try reloading some 60's! And that might work, i bought a 6 round mag to replace the stock 4 round. maybe ill try and modify the 4 and just "see what happens'' haha

There is a way to mod the mags to make longer round fit. It involves a dremel and epoxy.... Google should help you find it... you're not the first one to run into this issue. :)

ya i kind of figured i wasnt the only one with this problem, at least i have a mag to sacrifice haha. i would be interested in seeing somones pictures of thise modification?
