Let me start off by saying I am not new to reloading. I have done it for 15 years, for dozens of calibers. Its not my first rodeo.

I have a new to me Tikka T3 270 wsm. Sometimes, a round chambers nice, normal, no pressure when closing bolt. Some rounds, its tighter but bolt closes. And finally, sometimes the round wont even allow me to close the bolt. And no, it's not the bullet touching the lands, there is no marks on the leads whatsoever.

It seems to be making contact with the top of the case where the case meets the shoulder. I have FL sized them with the RCBS die (yes its set properly as well)

Thought maybe it was the die, borrowed a buddies FL RCBS die and sized a brass that wouldnt go. No dice. Still no change.

It happens with Winchester brass, federal brass and remington. In no order, 1 winchester is good, next wont chamber. But when I get rounds in, it shoots great.

Any ideas on what the issue is? Im wondering if the chamber could use a good polish/scrub.

Make sure you have a good cam over at the top of your stroke. I've had the same issue with my .300WSM where I had cam over but if you looked closely there was still daylight between the bottom of the die and the top of the shell holder. Those WSM brass are pretty stiff, you need a good cam over to really full size them sometimes especially if you have a tight chamber.

check your shell holder, are you using an RCBS shell holder? If you are, I'd start by filing a though off the top of the shellholder and setting your press up to cam over hard, not all shellholders are created equal.......

I have an RCBS shell holder. I will try this and see if that works. My buddy uses this shellholder and an RCBS die with his 300 wsm and never had an issue. Ill give this a shot thanks

Exactly this. ^ ^. I had the same issue with my BLR in 270 WSM and taking the shell holder down a couple of thousandths of an inch solved the problem.

I bought my Tikka 270 wsm new in 2010, and have hand loaded all that time as well NEVER had an issue until last year . It was exactly as you describe your issue. I am a meticulous reloader as well .
i measure everything throughout the loading process. My bullets aren't touching the lands so I was EXTREMELY frustrated as well almost to the point of throwing out the gun.
the last thing that i decided to check is my seating die and reset it to the recommended setting (backing off the exact distance from the shell holder on an extended ram) , and that turned out to be the problem. At some point the lock nut must have moved just a little bit.

Thanks guys. That seemed to cure it. Tried dropping sizing die down a tad with no change. Took the shell holder to the bench sander and took a tad off. Worked like a charm

glad you got it sorted out, I understand the frustrating part of how something can work for so long and then just quit working for no reasonable explanation, that's why we're always here to help out
