Hello,
I'm considering Tikka as my hunting rifle, but as I have access to modern 7.62 ammo for practicing I'm wondering if anybody provides experience can Tikka handle that ?
From pressure point of view 308 rifle supposed to be able to handle 7.62, but I read that some 308 rifles have issue clambering/ extracting military ammo (I noticed several complains about Savage classic).
Thanks in advance.

Blast away. They are interchangeable. Same (or very similar pressures) and similar dimensions.

The problem recently reported was a Savage with a stuck steel case. This is a steel case issue, not a NATO case issue.

I use a lot of steel cases in my target rifle. Problems arise from heat and from lacquered cases.

YMMV, but I've been shooting some old DA headstamp 7.62 out of my CTR with no over pressure signs or trouble chambering, extracting, etc. It actually groups well too. Considering it must be around 50-60 years old, I'm impressed. BTW The same ammo is too hot for my poly m-14 and it's sloppy chamber.

It's the other way around IIRC that can cause problems. (ie firing .308 in a 7.62 NATO chamber) There's a good article on it here: http://www.303british.com/id36.html

On a side note, I picked up a couple 145 grain PPU .308 for break-in and to make some brass for my rifle. It's actually a bit tight in the chamber.

EDIT: I see Ganderite answered while I was typing... If he says it's fine, you're good to go. ;)

Interesting. Do you know, what cases are in canadian ammo: steel or brass ? 5.56 is brass, but I never look at 7.62 before.
And do you have any ideas, why it was reported against savage but not against Tikka ?
I'm debating savage 14 vs tikka hunter, so don't want miss ...
