Tikka T3 Battue Light in 30-06

BTW where can I order those QD rings?

I got these for my M55, M07, and T3 from overseas. Since then, I've contacted the manufacturer suggesting to set up a "web-shop" for ordering these on-line. The reply was that if there's enough interest from here, they might do it.

So, I'd suggest that you go to their website and leave a comment that you are interested. Ideally, we'd get a Canadian importer to carry these so they would be available locally... but cheap Asian junk or mediocre, overpriced "brand-name" goods seem to be all we can get here.

Anyways, go to www.masina-tuote.com/en/varusteet.html for a description of the mount, and you'll find the e-mail address there as well.

PS: To see how this type of mount design works on my Tikka M55, go to youtube and search for: Ma Si QD M55

Cheers!

I'm not quite sure I follow, but I think you are suggesting EoTeck for fast target acquisition. If that is the case, I tried them before buying my Battue and it didn't work for me. They look quiet nice in a predominately gray/brown darker background. But come deer hunt session in bush/maple country Ontario, the predominant background is blazing red and orange. At any brightness setting, following a fast moving object was a chore for me. That is why i went with open sights in the first place.

Ok that makes sense, I didn't notice your location.

I am leaning towards a quality QD mount and mid-power scope. The sights alone are phenomenal for close-in shooting.

Well,I can now personally attest to this: I finally got to put some "mileage" on my battue today. It feels like these sights just seem to draw the sights and your eye into alignment with the target. This was the case up to around 50 yards - however, at about 100 yards, the group seemed to open up more than with standard irons. Popping in the scope with the QD mount fixed that . Nothing "scientific," just a fun day at the range...

Just an update that my replacement rifle arrived today. It's like comparing apples to oranges, a Friday gun to a Wednesday gun... this rifle is perfect. The bluing is better and deeper, the sights are rock solid and NO rust! :) Epps really stood up to the plate and took care of things. A rocky start, but a good end. Thanks for all your support!

The bolt, as is typical of T3's, is silky smooth. It chambers my 3 snap caps like butter! I am very pleased. The sights are just awesome, and at this point, I have absolutely no desire to clutter up this beautiful rifle with a scope. I'll take her to the range on Sunday and put her through her paces.

The only negative is that I didn't get a "Sako tool" to remove the action from the stock. I got one for my Sako 85 Bavarian and my T3 Sporter. Does anybody know if they're supposed to come with the rifle? and what torx size??

Just as an aside, this may not be my last T3!

Just an update that I couldn't risk this Battue rusting out in the elements. It's barreled-action is on route to Barret Arms in Alberta for the full parkerizing and Arma-coat treatment. Barret, who goes by "murdoc" on CGN, has done two of my SKS' s and they both turned out excellent.

I also purchased a Leupold VX-2 1-4x20 scope and an extra 5-round magazine to complete the package. The steel Leupold bases are awesome and provide a solid mounting solution... and two small slotted screws detached the scope.. so "semi-QD". It should be a nice 50 to 125 yard tool when done.

Did you consider Arma-Coat's black nitron treatment, rather than coating? My Ruger GSR was done in that finish by them, and it's excellent.

That finish is also 'good enough' for Remington and Ruger on various factory rifles, as well as numerous pistol makers.

Yes sir - that's why we pay a little extra for them... . So, I hope that everything works out well with yours.

As to scopes on them, I firmly believe that good QD mounts will give the best of both worlds with this rifle. And (drumroll, please:) here it is:

As you know, these fine QD mounts are not available in North America, and are a real pain to order from the supplier in Finland.
Would there be any interest in me bringing some in to test the waters?
CGN'er TAP375 has like 4 of them, and I'm sure he'll chime in on their quality. I just got mine, and I consider it to be the best QD mount I have ever seen and used.
The supplier wants to make me the LONE North American supplier, and this is something I am seriously considering doing!
However, there would need to be some initial interest from Tikka T3 owners.
Let me know.

Price would be in the range of $350.
Pricely, yes, but these are precision made by a small company where fit and finish are top priority.

That's a mighty fine looking carbine you got there. I've been kicking the idea around about getting a new brush gun for some time now. After looking at those pictures the idea of a tikka battue is starting to be very appealing
