Tikka T3 Battue Lite- Impressions?

I've been searching for a new deer gun, and after poking around I've 90% settled on the Tikka Battue Lite in 30-06. My wish list included:

Iron Sights- hate to ruin a hunt because of a scope problem
Short Barrel- for moving easily through the bush
Light Weight- I'm lazy
Detach Mag- cause it makes me feel cool
Calibre-barrel combo that will perform out to 400m if needed.

I also thought of a Remington 700 SPS Tactical, but .308 is the biggest it goes.

Any experience or feedback would be appreciated.
 
For the ~$100-200 more than a regular T3 Lite I'd skip it. I'd get the regular T3 Lite and add the exact sights I want/need/like. You could also have a gunsmith shorten and recrown the barrel if that was important to you.

For the cost of iron sights and installation and having the barrel shortened and recrowned on a T3Lite, I'd skip it and pay a bit extra to get a Battue.
 
Thanks all for the responses. I considered chopping a barrel, but the re-crown didn't sit well, as the Tikka or Remington factory crown is probably never going to be equaled for a reasonable amount of money. If I can find one to get my hands on I'll post some impressions and range tests with the iron sights and a scope.

How accurate these guns are with open sight? Trying to chose between this and Savage Scout for bush hunting. No scope intended. Both in 308.
 
I have one in .308 (thought that was best with the 20" bbl) and am really impressed. I've been lucky enough to have had a few high end rifles and this one shoots right along with them. With a load of Norma brass, CCI BR-2 primers, 42.2gr IMR 4064 and 180gr Nosler Partitions (thanks DOUG!) I can get 1/2 to 3/4" groups at 100 off a Lead Sled. Open sights yield sub 2" at 50. Its a pleasure to carry one handed which makes it always ready as a snap shooter. Some guys slag the "ray gun" sights but they sure work well for my middle-aged eyes. I've set mine up with a picatinny base from the T3 tactical with Leupold QRW for the glass. I can pop the scope for dogging and the thick stuff, then replace the scope with no loss of zero.
This rifle leaves me scratching my head why I paid more for other rifles.

Thanks burnsy. Excellent review and to the point.

I have decided to get one, but no dealer has it in 30-06. Although, upon reading how well your 308 groups 180 gr partitions, I may scale down to a 308. For the same reasone as yours. I believe this is more than enough for moose and bear.

Theres a 30-06 for sale at Lake Huron Rod and Gun in Underwood
