Tikka T3 Bolt problems

I prefer a plastic "clip". The worst part about clips is that when you drop, step on, or ding the feed lips your gun could turn into a jamb-o-matic without you realy knowing it untill it is too late. This happened to me with a Parker Hale. The mag bounced in the quad box and bent the lip just a little.
The Plastic clip on my T3 is kinda cheasy but I bet I won't be bending the feed rail on it any time soon.

I had some good blow back from a very hot load in a T3 chambered in 6.5/06 AI. The plastic bolt shroud did exactly what it was supposed to do, redirect the gasses downward AWAY from my face!
Of the complaints about problems I've heard from Tikka owners since the introduction of the model, I can't recall any of them being because the part was plastic and not metal. I hear of complaints all the time of parts made of metal on other brands of rifles.
If people can get their head around the plastic parts they will find they have a very affordable, reliable and accurate rifle.

Well talk about eating crow, and I'll be the first to admit it. I looked at my
M695 and the darned bolt shourd IS plastic. I've had it a little over two years now and it also looked like steel to me. I loved that rifle and in spite of the plastic shroud, I still love it.

I have a similar problem as yours weeks ago, see pic...
Good folks of Accuracy Plus (Thank you Mark and Jeff) in Peterbo fixed it for me. Actually, all you need to do is unplug the plastic shroud by a screw driver (no lock/lug or anything will be broken, just becareful not to scatch it, it's plastic after all
) then turn the internal part clockwise (as instructed in the manual ) back to the locking position, and re-plug the shround back in position.- Location

My T3 lite is in 22 250 and is sweet to carry. When it is time to stop, it is the most accurate firearm I have used(Sako 243 was close second). It easily outshoots my Winchester bull barrelled 22 250 Mod 70. I used it frquently last winter after yodel dogs and the plastic is not even a concern anymore.

Seems alot of Folks Fear a problem that doesn't exist. At least it didn't on the 4 I've had and Used
If the Recoil from a 458 Win Mag doesn't crack the Floorplate in subzero temps I'm not sure what "normal wear and tear" would ?
Sure I agree and as I said before I'm not a FAN of these Plastic Parts (for my own cosmetic issues) however they work and given the Accuracy Tikkas deliver they work well enough.
Maybe Tikka will eventually replace the Plastic #### with Metal and then They'd Truly have a Winner in my Books
I'd even consider Buying one.If you don't like the Plastic because it's cheap and looks like Hell that's fine
But don't hate it because of some Dreamed up reliability problem that doesn't exist

Most of the complaints about the T3 are just ignorant. Mine was beaten to hell on this most recent horseback hunt. It's no worse for wear. Have had 2 out on -30 banging around. No worse for wear.
I hear of issues with all the other brands sooner or later. Have not heard of any problems with the plastic parts yet on the T3.
My complaint is with the safety. It's poorly designed. It get switched to the fire position on my day pack some times. It's not plastic.
Honestly, there are malfunctions and durability complaints often with the other brands. I don't see why people focus on imaginary issues with the T3.

I really wanted a Tikka, because of their accuracy. I searched high and low for an M695 and travelled to Lethbridge AB to get it. I did not like how the T3 was lightened up, and why would someone want ot shoot a lightweight .338. Anyways point is, I did not know that the bolt shroud was plastic until this thread. It looks a lot like steel and has not affected the awesome performance of my Tikka. My friend is still trying to get his Sako 75 to group like mine, I must say though that his gun is prettier than mine and cost about $800 more.

My 2 Sako's 75's shoot as well as my 3 T3's.
boonerbuck, don't get me wrong, I'm not putting down Sako, I'd have one in a New York minute if I could afford one. My buddy's big on appearances though, and maybe he just hasn't found the right recipe. It will be hard for him or anyone else to beat a 1/4" - 5 shot group.
